Position Summary

This is a hybrid role designed to keep an experienced technician fully utilized. When a call comes in, you respond as an on-call road technician handling roadside repairs, recoveries, and towing assignments. Between calls, you supplement your hours working in the bus repair shop or maintaining our tow trucks and recovery equipment. The right person is comfortable bouncing between hands-on shop work and unpredictable field calls, and takes pride in keeping equipment ready and on the road.

On the Road

• Respond to on-call road service requests for towing, recovery, and roadside repairs.
  

• Operate heavy-duty and light-duty tow equipment safely and professionally.
  

• Diagnose and perform basic roadside repairs to get vehicles or buses moving when possible.
  

• Communicate clearly with dispatch, customers, motor clubs, and law enforcement on scene.
  

• Complete accurate call documentation, photos, and paperwork for every job.
  

In the Shop

• Supplement hours by working in the bus repair shop on diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs.
  

• Perform scheduled maintenance and repair work on the towing fleet (PMs, brakes, hydraulics, lighting, tires, DOT inspections).
  

• Maintain tools, equipment, and a safe, organized work area.
  

• Support the Working Manager with equipment readiness, parts coordination, and shop projects.
  

• Help train less-experienced team members on safe procedures and best practices.
  

• Hands-on experience as a road technician, fleet technician, diesel mechanic, or experienced tow operator.
  

• Valid CDL (Class A or Class B preferred) or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe.
  

• Clean driving record and ability to pass DOT physical and background screening.
  

• Solid mechanical aptitude across diesel, hydraulic, electrical, and air brake systems.
  

• Willingness to be on-call and respond to after-hours calls on a rotating basis.
  

• Strong work ethic, dependability, and the ability to work independently in the field.
  

• Experience working on medium- and heavy-duty buses or commercial vehicles.
  

• WreckMaster, TRAA, or other towing/recovery certifications.
  

• ASE certifications (e.g., T-series Medium/Heavy Truck, School Bus).
  

• Experience maintaining wreckers, rotators, or other towing equipment.
  

• Ability to lift, push, and pull equipment associated with shop and roadside recovery work.
  

• Comfort working in shop and outdoor environments in all weather conditions.
  

• Ability to work on-call shifts, including nights and weekends, on a rotating basis.
  

• Hourly pay: $35–$45 per hour, with flexibility above the range for an exceptional candidate.
