Transportation Maintenance Technician I, II or III

TxDOT's Collin County Maintenance Office with the Dallas District is looking for a Transportation Maintenance Technician I, II or III based in McKinney, TX. This position performs routine maintenance work related to transportation activities such as roadway repair, light and heavy equipment operation, preventive maintenance, minor repairs on equipment, traffic control, and assisting the public during emergency situations. Salary Range For Each Position Level:

• Position Title: Transportation Maint. Tech I: A16: $40,918.00 - $61,130.00
• Position Title: Transportation Maint. Tech II: A17: $42,976.00 - $64,469.00
• Position Title: Transportation Maint Tech III: A18: $45,521.00 - $71,055.00

This position is for a Transportation Maint. Tech I, II or III. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Minimum Salary: $40,918.00

Maximum Salary: $71,055.00

Position Description

Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Essential Duties

The essential duties for the Transportation Maintenance Tech I, II and III include:

• Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices
• Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards
• Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations
• Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush
• Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
• Performs all other job responsibilities as assigned

Additional duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech II and III include:

• Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
• Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems
• Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications
• Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance meter, and total survey station

Additional duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech III include:

• Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
• May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications
• Trains other employees

Minimum Qualifications

Education: No education required.

Experience for Transportation Maintenance Tech (TMT): TMT I = No experience required TMT II = 1 year experience* TMT III = 2 years experience* *Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A" License, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.

Currently Military or Veterans: US Military CDL Equivalent Conditions of Employment: US Military License candidates must successfully obtain Texas Class "A" CDL within 120 days of employment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling

Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment

Subject to extreme heat and cold: below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees for longer than an hour

Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
