Medical Assistant

Clinical DutiesPrepare patients for examination (vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, medical history).Assist providers during exams and minor procedures.Perform phlebotomy, collect specimens (blood, urine, swabs), and label correctly.Conduct point-of-care testing (blood glucose, pregnancy test, urinalysis, etc.).Administer immunizations, injections, and medications as directed by the provider.Document care in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).Prepare and maintain exam rooms (sanitizing, restocking supplies).Support infection control protocols and proper use of PPE.Administrative DutiesSchedule patient appointments and coordinate follow-ups.Answer phones, relay messages, and manage patient inquiries.Process referrals to specialists and imaging centers.Maintain patient records, update demographics, and ensure accuracy.Handle medical correspondence, including faxing, scanning, and emailing.QUALIFICATIONS:Education Required HS Diploma or EquivalenceLicense/Certification/Registration(s) Required Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant ProgramExperience/Skills Required- One (1) year previous experience in a medical setting of relevant experience required. Excellent communication/interpersonal skills. Bilingual preferred. Knowledge of Computer Technology preferred. Successful completion of St. Barnabas Hospital orientation.
