Lao Family Community Development, Inc. (LFCD) is a community-based non-profit organization established in Richmond, Contra Costa County, California, in 1980. Since then, LFCD has expanded its operations to Alameda and Sacramento counties with its headquarters located in Oakland, California.LFCD delivers programs and services from seven locations in more than 35 languages. The organization provides community development, affordable real estate, workforce development, education, and human services that primarily support low-income individuals and families, refugees, immigrants, transitional-age youth, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and other underserved populations.
Job Summary: The Workshop Facilitator provides s trauma-informed, peer-based mentoring, financial coaching, and reentry education to justice-involved individuals. This position is critical in empowering clients through lived experience, supporting behavior change using Cognitive Behavioral Interventions (CBI), and increasing financial literacy to help participants build sustainable, independent lives post-incarceration. The Workshop Facilitator delivers both one-on-one and group-based services, facilitates evidence-based workshops, and collaborates with case managers and reentry support teams. Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provide non-judgmental, peer-based support and encouragement to clients transitioning from incarceration or justice involvement.
- Conducted daily workshops and provided coaching to all clients enrolled in the San Pablo office programs, followed a bi-weekly workshop schedule, and had regular one-on-one check-ins with clients to monitor progress and emotional well-being.
- Facilitate sessions in-person (one-on-one or group) and virtually, as needed.
- Share appropriate lived experience to build rapport and foster trust, accountability, and motivation.
- Help clients navigate housing, employment, substance use recovery, and family reunification barriers.
- Conducted assessments of clients' financial situations and helped create realistic, personalized financial plans.
- Coach clients on financial literacy topics such as budgeting, saving, building credit, and understanding financial institutions.
- When applicable, clients can access banking services, credit repair programs, debt reduction plans, and public benefits.
- Document financial milestones and provide case management or team progress reports.
- Facilitate group sessions using evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI) curriculum tailored for justice-involved populations.
- Teach core CBI components such as thinking patterns, decision-making, problem-solving, and emotion regulation.
- Create a safe, structured learning environment that encourages group participation, reflection, and peer learning.
- Track attendance and maintain accurate facilitation logs and participant progress.
- Collaborate with program supervisor, case managers, and employment/housing specialists to align support strategies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, workshop attendance logs, and outcome tracking.
- Support the scheduling and outreach for financial literacy and CBI workshops.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and supervision to ensure service quality and continued professional growth.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the CalAIM program and leverage cross-sector partnerships to support positive housing and health outcomes for participants.
- Refer clients to supportive services such as mental health care, substance use treatment, and educational opportunities.
- Represent the program at community events and reentry partner meetings as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field, such as Sociology, Psychology, etc., is preferred, or must have at least 2 years of experience with peer coaching in serving justice-involved, homeless, and low-income populations.
- Lived experience with justice involvement preferred
- Familiarity with CBI curricula (e.g., CBI-SA, Thinking for a Change, Moral Recognition Therapy).
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and motivational interviewing.
- Experience facilitating groups and conducting workshops.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Bilingual in English and another language preferred.
- Certification in peer support, financial coaching, or a related field is a plus.
- Must have reliable transportation to meet with landlords and clients as needed.
- Self-starter, ability to work with minimal supervision; excellent communication, multi-tasking, community relations, networking, and public speaking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with families, women, and children without discrimination towards people of diverse cultures, races/ethnicities, socio-economic positions, ages, religions, genders, physical/mental challenges/disabilities, and sexual orientations.
- Understand, explain, and apply complex local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Able to travel to meet with service providers and participants; ability to work independently as well as part of a team; must have a flexible schedule on some evenings and weekends.
- Proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database management, and Internet Explorer.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and work on the computer; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear; and move objects up to 25 pounds.
Compensation: Salary is based on experience and education. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes a health plan/vision, dental, paid vacations, holidays, sick leave, and employer-contributed pension/group life insurance.
