Biewer Sawmill Winona is filling General Labor positions for Wednesday- Friday (6:00am-6:00pm) clean up schedules. This is a fantastic opportunity to join the lumber industry and build a long lasting career!

Summary:

Provide frontline leadership for a team of employees as the next level of command to answer practical and routine questions, training support, and to resolve day-to-day operational issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as the first point of contact for team members with day-to-day questions, concerns, or operational issues.

Provide real-time coaching, on-the-job training, and mentoring to help team members grow in their roles.

Build and maintain positive, respectful working relationships with all team members.

Support new employee onboarding and orientation alongside the Supervisor.

Recognize and reinforce good performance; address minor performance concerns with the Supervisor's guidance.

Troubleshoot routine equipment, machine, or workflow issues and escalate complex problems to the Supervisor promptly.

Coordinate daily work assignments and workflow priorities; step into a directing role when the Supervisor is unavailable.

Monitor team output, quality, and pace; communicate any gaps or concerns to the Supervisor.

Assist with documentation of incidents, near-misses, maintenance needs, and corrective actions.

Ensure work areas are organized, maintained, and meet housekeeping standards at all times.

Lead by example in adhering to all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and company policies.

Reinforce safe work behaviors daily; immediately address any observed unsafe conditions or actions.

Communicate production goals, safety updates, and company policies clearly to the team.

Participate in safety training, team meetings, and complete safety audits as required.

Basic Qualifications:

Language skills to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and standard operating procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively and professionally to customers or employees of organization.

Mathematic skills with the ability to calculate figures and amounts using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.

Demonstrated ability to coach, motivate, and guide coworkers in a team setting.

Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment and procedures.

Working knowledge of workplace safety practices and OSHA standards.

Familiarity with lumber mill or wood products manufacturing operations.

Excellent interpersonal, organizational and teamwork skills.

Some computer skills or ability to acquire working knowledge or MS Office and internal systems.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

High School diploma or equivalent experience preferred.

1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing, lumber, or industrial environment including machine operation, equipment operation, or maintenance.

Work Environment:

Industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery and mechanical equipment.

Exposure to bark, sawdust, and fluctuating seasonal temperatures (hot, cold, humid).

Due to exposure to noise above the permissible exposure limit (PEL), falling hazards, and sawdust, employees must wear hearing protection, a hard hat, safety glasses, and safety footwear, and a high-visibility shirt/vest.

This safety-sensitive position requires employees to comply with all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and required drug and alcohol testing procedures.

Combined office and industrial/manufacturing work setting.

Physical Demands:

Stand or walk for extended periods (8-12-hour workdays).

Climb and descend steps, stairways, or ladders several times per shift.

Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
