Shop Mechanic (IBEW 1393)

About the Role As a Fleet Mechanic with MYR Group, you will perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, and minor equipment repairs on a variety of fleet vehicles and equipment. You will work safely and professionally, providing exceptional customer service to internal customers. The position is unionized under IBEW 1393 and offers opportunities for advancement within the Fleet Department. Essential Functions Entry‑level position performing minor servicing and repairs with oversight from senior mechanics. Perform routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes and tune‑ups. Identify mechanical problems visually or with diagnostic equipment. Maintain records of time, materials, equipment condition, and repairs performed. Track information in computer software; ensure repair orders and timesheets are complete and accurate. Conduct safety inspections and prepare documentation. Work in accordance with DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA and other applicable regulations. Participate in training programs and maintain safety certifications. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Other duties as assigned. All duties performed at a company‑designed office or field location. Comply with Company Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and industry standards. Qualifications Completed vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in vehicle and equipment repair, or 5 years of experience in heavy truck, automotive, or equipment repair. Capable of operating company vehicles and equipment on a daily basis; valid driver’s license required. Minimum age 18 years. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred (not required). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Reliability and strong work ethic. Good teamwork skills. Effective communication; ability to read orders, work instructions, and log entries accurately. Basic computer or data entry skills. Experience with mechanical tools, materials, and testing equipment. Working knowledge of vehicle and equipment design, adjustment, operation, maintenance, and repair. Ability to follow safety rules and procedures. Basic understanding of applicable regulatory guidelines. Physical Requirements Reaching, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, squatting, kneeling; lifting medium loads up to 50 lb occasionally, up to 25 lb frequently, up to 10 lb constantly. Work indoors in climate‑controlled shared areas with moderate to loud noise, outdoors in varying weather, or in hazardous conditions. Potential exposure to hazards such as moving mechanical parts or vehicles, vibration. Compensation & Benefits Union position; wage based on experience and certifications (salary $35.24 /hour).
