Family Advocate

Job Overview Family Advocate reports to the Assistant Director of Family Services and Community Partnerships. The candidate will advocate for families in the South Los Angeles community, coordinate Center Parent Committees Meetings, and manage child services, health services, and comprehensive tracking. The role involves building partnerships with community agencies and linking families to resources while ensuring compliance with agency policies, Head Start and California State Preschool regulations. Responsibilities Recruit, certify, and enroll children into Head Start and/or CA State Preschool Programs. Assess each family's strengths, concerns, and priorities, providing case-management services to support school readiness. Maintain a caseload of up to 45 families, engaging them in activities that support child and family development. Assist families in accessing health services: screenings, referrals, immunization schedules, nutrition assessments, mental health, disability assessments. Conduct family needs assessment and partnership agreements, identify problems, and link families with appropriate resources. Ensure completion of all program requirements and adherence to Head Start Performance Standards and California State Preschool Regulations. Provide health and dental services oversight and routine care access for children. Support classroom care during understaffed periods, including auxiliary activities such as food preparation and clean up. Recruit and enroll eligible children, monitor attendance, and work with staff to support family choices responsive to culture and values. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education. 1 year of experience performing administrative support services. Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards. Minimum of 6 months of experience monitoring, entering, and tracking data. Minimum of 6 months of casework management. Experience networking with community partners. Bilingual: English/Spanish. CPR & First Aid Certificate (may be obtained after applying but before starting). Preferred Qualifications AA or BA degree in Human Development, Social Work, or related field. 12 units of child development. Family Development Credential or obtaining within 18 months of employment. 2 years of experience performing administrative support services program support services in directly related field. Physical Requirements Must be able to climb stairs, reach, bend, lift 20-30 pounds, crawl, kneel, stoop, twist, grasp with hands and fingers, use arms and legs, walk, and climb ladders if applicable. Requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
