Code Enforcement Inspector

Salary : $53,217.84 - $53,217.84 Overview Works under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor in the Code Enforcement Service Center, Public Works Division. The City code enforcement inspector is responsible for inspecting the exterior and interior of vacant and occupied residential structures, grounds, and abandoned automobiles for compliance with applicable housing, building, sanitation, health and fire prevention codes. Responsibilities Inspect residential properties, including structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and other installations, to determine maintenance requirements, housing violations, or hazardous conditions. Investigate complaints of code violations and re‑inspect properties to ensure compliance. Prepare and submit reports and citations using various computer and handheld devices. Issue violation orders, environmental and civil citations to property owners, landlords, or tenants. Maintain inspection records, photographs, videos, correspondence and other documentation in a computerized system. Research property ownership and provide information to the public regarding the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC). Prepare case records and materials for attorneys and testify at hearings or in court on behalf of the City. Interpret code requirements and recommend compliance procedures. Performs additional functions, essential or otherwise, which may be assigned. Qualifications TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally with staff, management, and the general public. Requires ability to make all types of installation inspections including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing. Must be able to climb under roofs and in attics. Requires the ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment such as copier, handheld devices, smart phone, still and video camera. Requires ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to traverse various surfaces when conducting inspections. Requires ability to operate an automobile and various equipment such as electrical tester, real estate wheel, and measuring tape. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: The majority of work is performed throughout the City within an assigned geographical zone. Work involves contact with the public, sometimes under stressful conditions. Employees may be scheduled to work various shifts, may be exposed to animals (dogs, cats), rodents, insects and deteriorating structures, and may be exposed to weather, fumes, odors, dust, and noise. Education & Experience: High school graduate and two (2) years' experience working with building construction or codes inspection; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be certified by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector within twelve (12) months of employment as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment. A college degree or coursework credit is strongly preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr
