OVERVIEW

Seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist for a permanent part-time, Paid Per Service opportunity supporting patients in Mount Hope, Beckley, and surrounding areas.

The Respiratory Therapist will educate, train, assess, and monitor patients who use ventilators, PAP therapy, home oxygen, and other respiratory equipment. The therapist will provide in-home services, assess patient needs, communicate relevant findings to physicians, document care, and help patients understand how to use and maintain prescribed respiratory equipment.

This role offers the flexibility to create a schedule based on accepted patient services. The manager would like at least two days of weekly availability, with an anticipated workload of six or more hours per week. There are no on-call responsibilities.

WHAT TO EXPECT

• Maintain an accurate listing of current respiratory patients.
• Complete initial and ongoing phone contact with respiratory patients according to policies and procedures.
• Conduct in-home patient visits.
• Assess patients according to physician orders and policies and procedures.
• Complete verbal assessments, including patient history and symptom review.
• Complete physical assessments, which may include lung auscultation and blood pressure measurement.

Perform applicable diagnostics, which may include:

• Spirometry
• Oximetry
• Sleep studies

Educate patients and caregivers on:

• Proper use and maintenance of respiratory equipment
• Physician prescriptions for equipment and therapy
• The importance of following prescribed treatment
• Benefits of therapy
• Potential consequences of noncompliance
• Potential adverse reactions or side effects

Set up and monitor highly technical respiratory equipment, which may include:

• Invasive ventilators
• Noninvasive ventilators
• Infant monitors
• Cough-assist equipment
• Negative-pressure ventilation equipment
• Intermittent positive-pressure breathing equipment
• Other equipment supported by the branch s scope of service
• Monitor the ongoing operation and function of respiratory equipment.
• Adjust ventilator settings based on patient assessments and in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Document all services and work performed according to company requirements.
• Communicate relevant patient findings to the physician.
• Support the orientation and training of other personnel when directed by the Area Manager.
• Perform duties required by applicable state licensure laws.
• Complete other appropriate responsibilities assigned by the Area Manager.
• Use a personal vehicle to travel throughout the assigned coverage area, with mileage reimbursement provided.
• Manage accepted patient services through a self-directed, flexible schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
• Licensure required by applicable state law.
• Ability to provide a copy of the required license to the location.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to provide respiratory care and patient education in home-based settings.
• Ability to travel throughout Beckley and surrounding areas, including areas toward Lewisburg, Princeton, and Bluefield.
• Ability to use a personal vehicle for work-related travel.
• Ability to work independently and manage a flexible PPS schedule.
• Ability to maintain complete, accurate, and timely patient documentation.
• Ability to comply with policies, physician orders, and applicable licensure requirements.

Preferred

• DME experience.
• Hospital respiratory therapy experience.
• Home respiratory care experience.
• Completion of an accredited respiratory care program.
• Degree in respiratory therapy or a related science.
• At least one year of related work experience.
• These qualifications are preferred unless otherwise identified as required above.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to sit, walk, stand, talk, and listen while completing job responsibilities.
• Ability to read small print on computer screens, tablets, forms, and other documentation.
• Ability to lift and carry office equipment at times.
• Ability to occasionally lift and transport patient equipment.
• Ability to work in contact with patients and respiratory equipment where potential exposure to contagious pathogens may occur.
• Ability to comply with Respiratory Protection and N95 Mask Fit Testing Policy.
• Ability to complete required medical evaluations and fit testing within established timeframes.
• Ability to complete annual respiratory protection recertification.
• Must maintain the facial conditions required for an effective N95 mask seal in accordance with applicable OSHA guidelines.
