Program Director of Standards and Learning

Program Director of Standards and Learning The Oklahoma State Department of Education seeks a highly skilled and visionary Program Director to lead the Office of Standards and Learning. The Program Director will oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational standards and curriculum to ensure high-quality learning experiences for students across the state. This leadership position requires a deep understanding of education policies, instructional practices, and assessment methodologies, and a commitment to promoting academic excellence in Oklahoma. Job Summary The Program Director will provide strategic direction, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, use data analytics to inform decisions, and champion continuous improvement in standards, curriculum, and instructional design. Essential Functions Knowledge & Expertise: Strong knowledge of education policies and standards at the state and national levels; demonstrated success in designing and implementing innovative educational programs; analytical mindset using data to drive improvements; proven collaboration with educators, administrators, and policymakers. Curriculum Development and Standards: Lead development and review of statewide educational standards and curriculum guidelines; align them with national best practices and the unique needs of Oklahoma students; collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders; review assessment data to ensure alignment. Instructional Design: Provide strategic direction for effective instructional materials and resources; integrate technology and research-based pedagogical approaches; analyze assessment data to inform instructional improvements and policy decisions. Professional Development: Develop and implement comprehensive professional development programs for educators; empower teachers with knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality instruction; foster a culture of continuous learning. Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with district leaders, teachers, and education organizations to promote a shared vision for excellence and address implementation challenges. Policy Implementation: Ensure effective implementation of educational policies related to standards, curriculum, and assessments; monitor compliance with state and federal regulations; provide guidance to stakeholders as needed. Data Analysis and Reporting: Utilize data analytics to assess the effectiveness of instructional programs; prepare comprehensive reports for senior leadership and other stakeholders. Minimum Qualifications Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field. Seven (7) years of experience in educational leadership, curriculum development, or assessment practices. Possession of a valid teaching certificate. Special Requirements Authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis without sponsorship now or in the future. Successful completion of a pre‑employment background check. Valid driver’s license from a U.S. state or territory for necessary job‑related travel. Physical Demands and Work Environment Physical Demands: Ability to stand, reach, and bend 50% of the time. Operates a computer and other office equipment 75% of the time. Ascends/descends stairs 25% of the time. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Cognitive Requirements: Clear and accurate communication, strong analytical skills, and timely decision-making. Sustained focus, attention to detail, and memory retention of policies and procedures. Adaptability and mental flexibility to handle changing information and unexpected challenges. Travel Occasional (up to 10%) in‑state/out‑of‑state travel may be required.
