Parenting Pastor
Creative Church
Job Description
Job Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
To pastor, disciple, equip, and strengthen the parents and families of Creative Church by helping them build Christ-centered homes, raise children according to biblical principles, navigate the challenges of every stage of parenting, and become deeply planted in the life and mission of the local church.
The Parenting Pastor will serve as a trusted spiritual parent, coach, and pastoral resource to families—helping parents grow in their relationship with Jesus, their relationship with their children, their confidence as parents, and their commitment to building a healthy Christian home.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Parenting Pastor should become someone parents naturally think:
“I need some wisdom. I should talk to them.”
This person should have the maturity and life experience to serve as a spiritual parent or grandparent to many within the church while remaining approachable, warm, patient, compassionate, and firmly grounded in Scripture.
QUALIFICATIONS
PERSONAL & SPIRITUAL
The Parenting Pastor must:
- Have a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a growing personal relationship with Him.
- Demonstrate a lifestyle consistent with biblical standards for Christian leadership.
- Demonstrate the household leadership principles described in 1 Timothy 3 , including managing their own household faithfully and leading their family with integrity.
- Be deeply rooted in Scripture and committed to biblical authority.
- Believe strongly in the importance of the local church and being planted, committed, accountable, and active within a church family.
- Demonstrate wisdom, maturity, humility, integrity, patience, kindness, and spiritual discernment.
- Be committed to personal holiness and righteous living.
- Be teachable and submitted to the spiritual leadership and doctrine of Creative Church.
PARENTING EXPERIENCE
This position requires actual parenting experience.
The Parenting Pastor should:
- Have personally raised children through multiple stages of childhood and/or adolescence.
- Understand from experience that parenting a toddler, elementary child, teenager, and emerging adult each requires different wisdom and approaches.
- Have demonstrated healthy and faithful parenting within their own household.
- Possess the humility to recognize that no family or parent is perfect while still being able to model biblical principles with credibility.
- Be able to draw from personal experience without assuming every family's circumstances will be identical to their own.
PASTORAL EXPERIENCE
The Parenting Pastor should have demonstrated ability to:
- Pastor and spiritually guide people.
- Provide pastoral care and biblical guidance to parents and families, helping them navigate parenting challenges, family dynamics, and significant life circumstances through the truth and wisdom of Scripture.
- Discern when a situation requires additional pastoral, professional counseling, medical, legal, child-safety, or other specialized support.
- Teach Scripture clearly and practically.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality and pastoral boundaries.
- Follow Creative Church's pastoral-care and safeguarding procedures.
ALIGNMENT WITH CREATIVE CHURCH
The Parenting Pastor must be willing to learn, embrace, teach, and reinforce Creative Church's established approach to parenting and family discipleship.
This includes becoming deeply familiar with:
- Pastor Jonathan's Home Team teachings
- Parenting trainings
- Books and written resources
- Sermons and teachings on family
- Creative Church's statement of faith, core values and biblical philosophy of parenting, marriage, family, discipleship, and church involvement
The Parenting Pastor is not being hired to establish an independent parenting philosophy.
The role is to help pastor people through the biblical parenting and family culture being established by the Senior Pastor and Creative Church leadership.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. PASTOR PARENTS
The primary responsibility of the Parenting Pastor is to personally pastor parents.
This includes:
- Maintain a consistent schedule of individual and couple parenting meetings.
- Meet with parents navigating:
- Young children

- Teenagers
- Young adults
- Blended families

- Grandparenting
- Difficult family transitions
- Listen, pray, encourage, teach, and provide biblical guidance.
- Provide appropriate follow-up after significant conversations.
- Develop ongoing relationships rather than simply providing one-time advice.
- Help identify families needing additional pastoral support.
2. STRENGTHEN THE HOME
Help parents establish healthy biblical practices within their homes, including:
- Prayer
- Scripture
- Family discipleship
- Church attendance
- Healthy communication
- Honor
- Discipline
- Boundaries
- Responsibility
- Forgiveness
- Purity
- Faith
- Generosity
- Serving
- Biblical decision-making
Help parents understand that spiritual formation does not happen only at church.
The church partners with parents, but parents remain the primary spiritual influence within the home.
3. CONNECT FAMILIES TO THE CHURCH
Work intentionally to help families become deeply planted at Creative Church.
Encourage and help parents move toward:
- Consistent Sunday attendance
- Children participating consistently in age-appropriate ministry
- Small groups
- Membership
- Serving
- Giving and tithing
- Relationships with other believers
- Biblical discipleship
- Church events and family opportunities
- Collaborate closely with Kids, Junior High, Youth, and other Next Gen ministries to develop and carry out a unified strategy that supports the spiritual health and discipleship of families through every stage of life.
Follow up with families who are beginning to disconnect or become inconsistent when appropriate.
The goal is not simply to solve a parenting problem.
The goal is to help build healthy Christian families who are deeply rooted in Jesus, Scripture, one another, and the local church.
4. PARENTING GROUPS & CLASSES
Develop and lead opportunities for parents to grow together.
These may include:
- Parenting small groups
- Parenting classes
- Short-term discipleship cohorts
- Parent Q&A gatherings
- Age/stage-specific groups
- Parent prayer gatherings
- Workshops
- Home Team studies
Create clear pathways for parents to move from attending an event into ongoing relationships and discipleship.
6. TEACHING & PLATFORM MINISTRY
As assigned, the Parenting Pastor may:
- Teach parenting classes.
- Lead workshops.
- Facilitate panels.
- Lead parent moments during services or events.
- Preach or teach in larger ministry environments.
- Host or moderate parenting conversations.
- Participate in podcasts or video content.
- Create parenting teaching resources.
The Parenting Pastor should be comfortable communicating publicly, but platform ministry is secondary to personal pastoral ministry.
The Parenting Pastor should be:
Warm enough that people want to talk to them.
Wise enough that people trust them.
Biblical enough that their counsel has substance.
Patient enough to listen before speaking.
Courageous enough to tell people the truth.
Humble enough to know when a situation requires help beyond their role.
The Parenting Pastor should never approach struggling parents with superiority or the attitude that their own family has done everything perfectly.
The goal is to shepherd people toward God's design with both grace and truth .
ORGANIZATION & FOLLOW-UP
Because personal meetings will represent a significant portion of this position, the Parenting Pastor must be highly organized.
The Parenting Pastor will:
- Maintain an organized ministry calendar.
- Schedule and confirm appointments.
- Maintain appropriate pastoral-care records.
- Track follow-up needs.
- Complete follow-up when promised.
- Track ministry activity and measurable fruit.
- Communicate significant pastoral concerns through the appropriate leadership channels.
- Protect confidential information according to church policy.
The long-term goal is not one Parenting Pastor counseling hundreds of families. It is one Parenting Pastor developing a culture and team capable of shepherding hundreds of families.
THE WIN
The Parenting Pastor is succeeding when:
- Parents know where to turn when they need biblical wisdom.
- Families are receiving personal pastoral care before problems become crises.
- Parents are growing spiritually.
- Children are becoming more anchored in their faith.
- Families are attending church consistently.
- Parents and children are developing meaningful church relationships.
- Families are serving.
- Families are practicing biblical generosity.
- Parents are discipling their children at home.
- Struggling families are finding help and hope.
- Mature parents are becoming spiritual mothers and fathers to others.
- Parenting ministry is multiplying beyond the Parenting Pastor.
Ultimately, the goal is to help build strong families, strong homes, strong children, and generations that remain planted in the house of God.
