Staff Engineer, Process Development & Automation

Abbott seeks a Staff Engineer to lead process development and automation initiatives for its histopathology laboratory operations in Madison, Wisconsin. The role involves integrating automation technologies, digital pathology systems, and workflow improvements while partnering across laboratory, engineering, quality, and IT teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy automation technologies supporting histopathology laboratory operations
• Collaborate with laboratory operations, engineering, quality, and IT teams on technology implementation
• Support implementation of digital pathology systems and laboratory instrumentation
• Drive workflow optimization and process improvement initiatives across complex systems
• Partner with external vendors to integrate new technologies and ensure successful adoption

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field, or Associate's degree with 2+ years relevant experience
• 6+ years of engineering or industry experience
• Advanced knowledge of engineering theories, practices, and procedures
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
• Technical proficiency in automation, system development, and laboratory integration
• Experience in regulated environments (CAP/CLIA compliance)
• Knowledge of laboratory information management systems and database applications

Compensation: $99,300–$198,700 base
