Pay Range: $200,000 - $220,000 a year
Location: San Francisco, CA.

This is a hybrid position, and candidates must be able to work at least four days per week in our San Francisco office.

YOUR CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has direct responsibility for the organization’s budget, finance, and financial operations-related activities. The CFO will lead the creation of a fiscal strategy, create projections and reports, manage monthly cash flow, track expenditures, and create and update fiscal policies and procedures. The CFO should have strong accounting skills and experience, familiarity with financial software applications (Abila), and experience and knowledge in the areas of contract compliance, real estate finance, business lending, and government funding sources. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Financial Leadership

• Provide leadership needed to plan and grow agency operations ef?ciently, including developing budgets and providing accurate projections in support of business strategy.
• Provide ongoing ?nancial analysis and modeling to a range of company leaders in support of key business decisions
• Serve as a ?nancial management resource on the Senior Leadership/Management teams of MEDA.
• Prepare and present ?nancial reports in Board, Board Committees, Management Teams, and Program teams meetings, as requested, and provide ?nancial information and education, as requested

Budgeting, Forecasting, And Cash Management

• Develop and track annual ?scal plans; prepare multi-year ?scal projections for organizational and program planning; Guide the agency in its annual budget process.
• Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
• Develop a reliable cash ?ow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs of the organization.
• Arrange ?nancing as required, including lines of credit, real estate ?nancing, and equipment ?nancing.

Accounting, Operations, Policies, and Controls

• Responsible for overall ?scal operations: directing internal ?nancial programs and procedures. and maintaining useful relationships with outside partners and vendors
• Develop and update ?scal policies and procedures for the agency
• Track revenues from all funding sources, review and coordinate the proper booking for all items from Real Estate Finance.
• Supervise disbursements and processing of bills checks, and expense reimbursements
• Supervise payroll processing

Audit, compliance, and external relationships

• Provide sound leadership in complying with ?nancial and legal requirements
• Establish and manage relationships with ?nancial institutions, independent auditors, major vendors and business partners, including preparation and review of contracts.
• Arrange for audits of organizational accounts. Coordinate activities of external ?nancial auditors.
• Oversee audit process and ensure timely completion of audit with external CPA.

Grants, contracts, and program ?nance

• Develop and maintain a schedule for contract reimbursements, ?nancial reports, and compliance documents on a monthly/quarterly and annual basis.
• Assist in contract budget negotiations and reporting of program expenditures and outcomes
• Monitor and ensure expenditures are in line with budget and contract/grant terms, provide explanations or highlight variances on an ongoing basis
• Coordinate the process to prepare monthly/quarterly contract invoices
• With guidance from the development team and program staff, produce budgets and budget narratives for grant proposals and reports
• Manage process for ?scal reviews of grants and contracts from government, corporate and foundation funders
• Ensure that costs are billed or applied in accordance with agency cost allocation methods and grant and contract terms

Other responsibilities

• Assist in special projects or other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

To perform successfully in this role, you will need to leverage these key qualifications:

• At least ten years of progressively responsible ?nance and accounting experience, including at least ?ve years in a senior ?nancial leadership role within a complex, multi-program or multi-entity organization.
• At least ?ve years of direct nonpro?t fund accounting experience, including restricted funding, government grants and contracts, cost allocation, ?nancial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash-?ow management.
• At least three years of experience overseeing real estate or property-management ?nance, preferably within affordable housing.
• At least ?ve years of successful staff supervision, including direct responsibility for managing and developing ?nance or accounting professionals.
• Direct experience leading annual ?nancial audits, including coordinating with external auditors, responding to ?ndings, strengthening internal controls, and implementing corrective actions.
• Demonstrated executive-level communication and judgment, including experience presenting to a Board and senior leadership team and navigating dif?cult ?nancial and personnel conversations.
• Expertise in federal grant compliance, including familiarity with EDGAR and applicable OMB requirements.
• Ability and willingness to work onsite in San Francisco four days per week.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related ?eld is required. Masters preferred.
• Certi?ed Public Accountant designation is preferred.
