Utility Design Technician — Infrastructure & Field Support

The role involves developing designs, layouts, construction drawings, and bills of material for utility infrastructure installations, removals, or modifications across Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, gas, and telecommunications facilities. Employees will also support field engineering for both internal and external customers, coordinate customer needs, and assist in New Business project planning and execution. Primary Duties Develop designs, layouts, construction drawings, and bills of material for relatively complex systems and for smaller projects or portions of larger projects for the installation, removal, or modification of utility infrastructure. Interpret and apply engineering standards and memos. Assist with technical consultation, plan development and recommendations for customer and company systems and processes; e.g., verify and validate studies, blueprints, or designs against accepted engineering principles and practices. Evaluate effectiveness of current design processes and participate on teams; e.g., design high voltage transmission and distribution circuits while meeting all engineering standards and criteria. Job Scope Develop construction drawings and material requirements for relatively complex systems associated with utility infrastructure installation, removal or modification, working independently under the direction of a lead engineer. Respond to customer needs by evaluating standard versus required facilities to develop charges that impact financial and operational outcomes. Handle financial requirements associated with projects that support the Asset Investment Committee / Project Review Committee processes. Apply technical knowledge to promote a safe work environment and enhance customer satisfaction. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree in a technical field with 0-3 years of technical experience, or an associate's degree in a technical field with 2‑5 years of relevant technical experience, or 5‑7 years of technical experience, or equivalent non‑degree or non‑engineering experience. The Technician Occupations Selection Systems (TECH) test is required unless an accredited engineering bachelor's degree is held. Ability to analyze and interpret electrical and mechanical systems. Knowledge and ability to apply problem‑solving approaches. Knowledge of construction, operations, or engineering principles and practices. Good knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices needed for routine assignments in a specific discipline of installation or service. Proficient in Computer Drawing and Computer Assisted Design skills. Valid driver's license. Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Relevant education or experience may be gained through job experience or formal educational programs comparable to a technical degree. Experience in military roles (e.g., transmission, distribution, gas, power systems), project management, electrician or gas technician roles, field operations, or other utility‑related work is desirable. Educational programs such as company‑sponsored training (e.g., PowerUp Academy) also meet the preferred criteria. These preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements. Benefits Annual salary ranging from $76,000.00 to $104,500.00 per year, based on skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors.
