OPENING DATE: August 26, 2026CLOSING DATE: Open Until FilledShift: M-F 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, rotating shiftPOSITION SUMMARY:The Museum Director is responsible for all aspects of operations including budgeting, financial controls, programming and exhibition development, collection oversight, research, marketing, and staffing.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:ADMINISTRATIONOversees day-to-day museum staff and activitiesDevelops cooperative and collaborative efforts with tribal, federal, state, and local agenciesDevelops and manage contractual agreements for operations-related servicesMaintains official records and documents; ensures adequate record-keeping in all areas of operationsEnsures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulationsInforms Administration and appropriate tribal departments regarding museum operationsAttends professional conferences, meetings, or seminarsFINANCIAL MANAGEMENTOversees day-to-day financial operationsOversees and processes department payrollDevelops and implement financial management policies and procedures with CN Tribal Administrator’s approvalDevelops the annual operating budget and manages museum within an approved budgetConsults with the CN Tribal Administrator and CN Property and Procurement regarding major financial issues and expendituresAssists in the completion of independent review auditsHUMAN RESOURCESHires, trains, supervises, and evaluates employees; schedules employee work periodsProvide direction to employees by assigning responsibilities, delegating duties, and allocating tasksEnsures that organizational policies and procedures comply with state and federal regulations regarding workplace employmentEnsures employees are well-informed by maintaining open lines of communicationDisciplines employees according to HR policies and proceduresMARKETING/PUBLIC RELATIONSOversees the museum’s marketing and public relations direction and strategiesPromotes and manage museum image in the media and to the general publicPromotes goals and objectives through positive relationships with the community, tribal agencies, other cultural organizations, and the mediaMonitors public perception and act accordinglyPossesses a thorough understanding of social media platformsCOLLECTIONS MANAGEMENTOversees implementation and management of collection-related policies and proceduresEnsures the preservation and care of collections in storage and on exhibitApproves new acquisition purchases within purchase limitEDUCATION/PUBLIC PROGRAMSAssists in planning, coordinating, and implementing educational and public programsDevelops networking relationships for educational and programming-related activitiesEXHIBITIONSAssists in planning, designing, coordinating, and installing temporary and permanent exhibitionsDevelops networking relationships for exhibition-related activitiesSECURITY/MAINTENANCEOversees security and maintenance of owned/leased property and equipmentDevelops and manage contractual agreements for security and maintenance-related servicesOTHERHelp greet visitors and directs their inquiries to the appropriate areaPrepares and participate in special events such as exhibit openings, programs, etc.Performs other duties as assignedREPORTS TO: The Director supervises the museum staff and reports to the CN Tribal Administrator.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires the ability to occasionally walk distances, sit and stand for long intervals, stoop, bend, and squat. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. This position requires a weekly ROTATED four-hour shift on Saturday, and occasional work in the evenings and holidays, when needed. Occasional travel for research and professional meetings is required.QUALIFICATIONS:The ideal candidate is a proven leader who is committed to educating the public on Comanche history, culture, traditions, and tribal fine art. The ideal candidate will also have a record of success that illustrates a career history that supports the following:Passion - The ideal candidate is passionate, extremely knowledgeable about the museum's collectionLeadership - The ideal candidate is an exceptional leader who encourages teamwork and diversity; has a proven track record with leading a team in accomplishing goals; is self-aware and able to remain calm under pressure; and can exercise flexibility and adaptability in sensitive situations.Strategic Vision - The ideal candidate can conceptualize projects in advance, and will have the ability to organize the supporting structure of administration, participating institution, financial, design, staff, and technical supports to bring it to fruition.Financial Responsibility - The ideal candidate can develop and analyze a budget and fiscally responsible.Excellent Communicator - The ideal candidate has outstanding written, and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal communication skills combined with a collaborative style, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external audiences including, those in the cultural fields, collectors, dealers, journalists, government personnel, and interested parties.Collaborator - The ideal candidate can successfully develop, foster, and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders to achieve results; able to prioritize, manage multiple projects efficiently, and respond to a high volume of ongoing requests timely to meet deadlines; and can adapt and be flexible in a dynamic work environment.Expertise - The ideal candidate provides leadership, strategic vision, curatorial, and managerial oversight for the museum's exhibitions, and can negotiate and strengthen the artifact and fine art collection.
