Laboratory Technologist

Job Summary Performs phases of laboratory testing, as assigned. Minimum Education Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology or a related biological/chemical science from an accredited college or university. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification None. Work Experience 0–6 months related experience in a clinical laboratory. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities PC skills needed for efficient computer utilization. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize work in an effective and efficient manner. Detail oriented in the examination of clinical and numerical data. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Collect and process biological specimens and other substances. Perform and report routine analytical tests under the direction of a medical technologist, recognizing factors that affect procedures and results, and taking appropriate actions within predetermined limits. Perform and monitor quality control within predetermined limits. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment under the direction of a medical technologist. Support laboratory goals by demonstrating teamwork, service excellence, and adherence to established guidelines and policies. Look for ways to improve processes. Perform other duties as assigned. Work with medical laboratory science students during educational laboratory activities. Decision Making Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established. Working Relationships Work directly with patients and/or customers, through telephone or face‑to‑face interaction; collaborate with internal and external customers and other healthcare professionals and staff.
