Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and graphic tools such as CAD, CAM or Ship Constructor. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group to consider ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Excludes classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments or Set Route/navis experience. Responsibilities Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products. Utilize CAD, CAM, or Ship Constructor tools for design and drafting. Gather information, conduct studies, compute calculations, and prepare rough layouts and sketches for design proposals. Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups concerning ease of manufacture, material availability, and contractual specifications. Qualifications High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of experience. Associate’s Degree or other 2‑year technical degree in a related discipline and 0 years of experience. Preferred / Nice to Have Familiarity with communication and combat systems on US Navy ships and an understanding of ship design and blueprint reading.
