Manager, Internal Communications (Hybrid) The Executive Office (EO) is a dynamic, high-volume department that serves the needs of the entire institution and its external constituents by supporting the work of the president and chief executive officer. Bringing together expertise in project management, communications, convening, research and analysis, and operations, the EO helps to translate priorities into action. The EO provides strategic support to the business by aligning its priorities and service delivery with the needs of the organization, partnering closely with the CEO's direct reports and senior leadership to support strong working relationships and effective governance. As a trusted partner across the organization, the EO manages crosscutting initiatives; develops briefings and materials to inform leadership; coordinates the CEO's engagements; and supports clear, consistent communication across the institution. The EO leads internal communications and plays a key role in strengthening staff engagement, reinforcing organizational values, and supporting institutional effectiveness. Position Overview The manager, internal communications, is a key position within the Executive Office. The manager executes and advances internal communications strategies and plans that inform, align, and engage employees, supporting understanding of the organization's priorities, values, and key initiatives while promoting a welcoming and inclusive culture. This role provides editorial leadership and oversight of the Trusts' internal communications channels, including the intranet, official Teams channels, and other staff-facing platforms. The manager leads relationships with internal stakeholders, oversees content planning and quality, ensures written and multimedia communications align with institutional voice, accessibility standards, and best practices, and manages staff. The role requires strong technical fluency and judgment in the design, functionality, and governance of internal communications platforms. This position is based in Pew's Washington, DC office and reports to the Director, Internal Communications. This position participates in Pew's hybrid work program with core days in the office and the flexibility to telework the remaining days. Staff also enjoy four telework "flex weeks" per year. Responsibilities Execute and evolve the internal employee communications strategy and supporting plans. Manage and develop internal communications staff through coaching, performance management, delegation, and opportunities for professional growth and increased responsibility. Provide editorial leadership and quality oversight for internal communications content across channels, ensuring accuracy, clarity, consistency, accessibility, and adherence to institutional voice. Direct editorial planning and calendar management to ensure communications are coordinated, appropriately sequenced, and responsive to organizational priorities. Provide creative direction and oversight for the visual presentation of internal communications across channels (including intranet content, digital displays, and multimedia) to ensure content is engaging, accessible, and aligned with institutional standards. Partner with business units and communications colleagues to develop integrated communications plans, align messaging, and support enterprise-wide coordination. Advise stakeholders on message framing, sequencing, tone, and channel selection for maximum impact. Oversee governance, usability, and continuous improvement of internal communications platforms and channels, including the intranet and other staff-facing digital tools. Evaluate communications effectiveness through analytics, staff feedback, and other available data, and apply insights to improve strategy, content, and delivery. Support onboarding and orientation communications for new staff. Foster a work environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible and in line with Pew and department goals. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Generally requires a minimum of 8 years of professional experience in internal communications, digital communications, or a related field, including staff, project, and/or consultant management experience; a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; Master's degree preferred. Strong writing, editing, and editorial judgment skills. Demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and developing staff, including providing clear direction, constructive feedback, and opportunities for professional growth and increased responsibility. Two or more years of direct supervisory experience, including performance management. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, particularly SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, and Outlook, in a communications or publishing context. Demonstrated experience overseeing or managing an intranet or enterprise internal communications platform. Strong ability to shape the visual presentation of internal communications-across intranet, digital displays, and multimedia-using effective layout, hierarchy, and visual storytelling principles. Practical understanding of digital publishing workflows, content governance, accessibility standards, and content lifecycle management. Proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Highly organized, self-directed professional with strong judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively under competing priorities and tight deadlines. Familiarity with contemporary internal communications trends, digital best practices, and comfortable adapting to evolving digital tools and platforms. Travel Minimal travel anticipated.
