SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

A Mechanic is skilled and experienced in the maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of all types of on highway and/or off highway mobile equipment.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Operating and inspecting equipment to diagnose defects Visually inspecting and listening to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions Dismantling and reassembling trucks, machines, and equipment to gain access to problem area Examining parts for damage or excessive wear and determining re-usability Repairing, replacing, cleaning, and lubricating parts as necessary Repairing malfunctioning hydraulic components Diagnosing and correcting electrical problems Replacing malfunctioning subassemblies and components (e.g. transmissions, clutches, differentials, engines, etc.) Welding, cutting, and fabricating of all equipment and components Changing oil, checking and changing batteries, and performing complete lubrication tasks on equipment and machinery Changing tires and repairing tires and tubes Testing repaired equipment to ensure operating efficiency Performing preventive maintenance Making recommendations for equipment to be repaired by outside sources Requisitioning parts and equipment Record keeping and reporting Providing general housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe facility Related duties as defined by the Area Manager NOTE: Employee must be able to demonstrate their skills through written and/or hands-on testing QUALIFICATIONS (Skills, knowledge, experience) CDL B with air brakes (must obtain within 1 year of hire with company assistance) 5-7 years experience Knowledge of heavy equipment & mixer trucks Knowledge of engines Knowledge of hydraulics Knowledge of braking systems Knowledge of driveline to include clutch, flywheel, transmissions, and differentials Knowledge of steering mechanisms and suspensions Knowledge of electrical systems Mechanical skills Welding, cutting, and fabricating skills Ability to manipulate tools (e.g., hand tools, power tools) Ability to read and write Ability to understand manuals

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lifting up to 75 pounds Using hands to manipulate tools Standing, walking for extended period of time Crawling under truck on back Climbing Working at elevated heights Manipulating components in hard to reach places with hands or tools Hearing Note: This job description may not cover all duties and requirements and may include additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
