Junior Accountant

Junior AccountantThe Junior Accountant will support the monthly accounting close process for assigned power generation entities. Working under the guidance of the Senior Accountant and Accounting Manager, the Junior Accountant is responsible for completing recurring, high-frequency accounting tasks accurately and on schedule, including accounts payable processing, recurring journal entries, cash and treasury reconciliations, inventory tracking, balance sheet account reconciliations, and compliance filings. Additionally, the role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously, and a foundational understanding of US GAAP and general ledger accounting principles.ResponsibilitiesWhat You Will DoReview weekly plant AP invoices for assigned plants in Microsoft Dynamics 365Verify GL account coding, proper accounting period, and Sales & Use tax flags on each invoice prior to postingMaintain the daily cash management schedule; coordinate timing of payments with the AP teamCode and route O&M Provider invoice batch files for approval and forward to AP team for payment processingPrepare and post monthly depreciation expense entries and maintain Fixed Asset rollforward schedulesScan GL expense accounts for fixed asset reclassifications and initiate correcting entries as neededPrepare prepaid amortization entries (insurance, deferred income, and other prepaids) on a monthly basisRecord Deferred Financing Cost amortization entriesPrepare Asset Retirement Obligation accretion and depreciation entriesPost and track accrual related entriesConfirm all cash-related journal entries are recorded completely and accurately each monthRecord interest income and miscellaneous deposits and refundsEnsure all wire payment support documents are filed in the appropriate Wires folderInvestigate stale outstanding checks and confirm no unique reconciling items remain unresolved at month-endComplete monthly inventory reconciliations and communicate reconciling items to plant personnel for confirmation and resolutionPrepare monthly Sales & Use Tax files for applicable plants and submit to Tax each monthPrepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations for all assigned entities, ensuring GL balances are supported and explainedIdentify and escalate unusual reconciling items or balances to the Senior Accountant for reviewMaintain organized supporting documentation and workpapers for all assigned accounts and journal entriesAssist with financial statement audit requests by providing support schedules, reconciliations, and documentation in a timely mannerQualificationsWe Want You On Our Team Because YouDemonstrate strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in a high-volume, deadline-driven environmentManage multiple recurring tasks simultaneously and prioritize by urgency across the monthly close cycleApply analytical and numerical aptitude to identify and investigate discrepancies in account balances or journal entriesWork proficiently in Microsoft Excel and adapt quickly to ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365Operate in an organized, self-directed manner to meet firm monthly close deadlines with minimal supervisionBring a curiosity and willingness to learn industry-specific accounting concepts related to power generation and energy marketsIdeally, You HaveBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required1–2 years of accounting experience; internship or public accounting experience a plusFoundational knowledge of US GAAP and general ledger accounting principlesWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with strong Microsoft Excel skillsExperience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar ERP a plusCPA candidacy or intent to pursue CPA licensure preferredExperience in the Energy industry a plus
