Project Cost Accountant

This is a structured hybrid position which requires working in our Owatonna, MN facility: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wednesdays and Fridays are home office workdays. Across our family of brands, we are committed to our customers, to each other, and driven by the belief that great performances happen when great people work together.As a Project Cost Accountant, you will contribute to Wenger Corporation’s strategy to provide exceptional customer experience by partnering with manufacturing and project managers to ensure accurate Project, Inventory, and Job valuation. The Project Cost Accountant is responsible for ongoing analysis of project cost, product cost, development of new product cost and margin analysis. The position provides timely and accurate financial guidance and analytics to all levels of management to inform key decision-making in pursuit of the company’s financial and operational objectives.At a minimum, you’ll need: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related fieldMinimum of three (3) years of related accounting experienceCost systems background with understanding of accounting principlesManufacturing experience/background preferably with a construction organizationProven strong analytical skills with acute attention to detail and accuracyDemonstrated ability to plan, organize, multi-task and work independently to complete goalsDemonstrated excellent communication skills with ability to communicate with all levels of the organizationPossess a positive, curious mindset that promotes improvements in operating effectivenessProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of productsIt would be great if you also have: Experience with ERP, MRP or Project Management softwareExperience with project accountingA typical day may include: Business partner with various areas of the organization to assist in analyzing, summarizing and reporting financial performance to drive decision-makingParticipating in Executive Summary review to ensure accuracy of costing build upParticipating in monthly Cost to Complete (CTC) review meetings and recording resulting changes/adjustmentsInvestigating project variances timely and defining/implementing immediate corrective actions / risk mitigation effortsTraining and working closely with the Project Management Team on project budgeting, forecasting, tracking of actual expenses and closing out projectsEnsuring known risks, such as commodity cost increases and labor/overhead rate variances, are addressed in project budgets and forecastsProviding additional assistance on items such as change orders, changes in project scope, etc. to project managers to ensure system and financial transactions are handled completely and correctlyWorking closely with tax filing team on sales and use tax accuracy and timeliness on projectsMaintain an accurate standard costing systemInventory reporting and support of inventory related processes: physical inventory, cycle counting and inventory reserve development and supportPerforming monthly closing activities, including preparing necessary journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting analysis, etc., while ensuring accurate and timely completion of the processAssisting with preparation of forecasts and annual budget Preparing supporting documentation as needed for annual audits and tax preparationAssist in monitoring compliance of accounting policies and advise management of needed changes to maintain proper internal controls and accuracyParticipate in helping drive and continuously improve the areas of accounting and reportingBenefit offerings include:Paid Time Off 9 Paid HolidaysGenerous Profit SharingMedical, Dental and Vision InsuranceSpending Accounts – HSA, FSA, DCFSACompany Paid Short-term and Long-term Disability Insurance401k Retirement Plan with Company Match Company Paid Life Insurance Supplemental Life Insurance Employee Assistance ProgramTuition Reimbursement Program Pay information reflects the anticipated compensation range for this position based on current market data.
