Job Description

The Deburr Inspector ensures that deburring and lapping operations are completed accurately, on time, and in full compliance with blueprint and quality requirements. This role combines hands-on deburring work, detailed inspection of critical dimensions, and training responsibilities to support a clean, safe, and efficient production environment in a precision manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

• Run dispatch reports regularly to confirm that jobs in the deburring and lapping area are being processed and completed on schedule.
• Oversee deburring operations on various metal parts using stationary abrasive wheels, handheld rotary air tools, drill presses with wire brushes and burr cutters, hand scraping devices, and other appropriate tools.
• Inspect critical dimensions of components to ensure they adhere to blueprint specifications and meet all quality standards.
• Verify compliance of finished hardware with drawing requirements and shop practices, including dimensional and visual verification of machined and unfinished areas.
• Perform visual inspections to identify defects, irregularities, or nonconformances in deburred and machined parts.
• Use a broad range of inspection tools, such as micrometers, calipers, bore gages, height gages, and optical equipment, to accurately measure and evaluate parts.
• Utilize quality-related software and ERP systems to record job results, inspection findings, and other relevant production and quality data.
• Assess potential nonconformances prior to starting the deburring process to prevent defects and ensure efficient workflow.
• Apply working knowledge of raw materials, casting and forging layouts, and internal and external thread inspection during deburring and inspection activities.
• Perform simple mathematical calculations to support measurement, inspection, and documentation tasks.
• Train new team members on deburring requirements, processes, and inspection standards to ensure consistency and quality across the team.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working area, implementing and sustaining a 6S environment.
• Follow established quality control procedures and contribute to continuous improvement efforts within the deburring and inspection processes.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on deburring experience combined with inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to deburr various metal parts using stationary abrasive wheels, handheld rotary air tools, drill presses with wire brushes and burr cutters, and hand scraping devices.
• Proficiency in quality inspection and quality control practices, including dimensional and visual inspection.
• Ability to interpret and work from blueprints and drawing specifications.
• Skilled in using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gages, height gages, and optical inspection equipment.
• Working knowledge of raw materials, casting and forging layouts, and internal and external thread inspection.
• Capability to identify and assess potential nonconformances before and during the deburring process.
• Comfort with using quality-related software and ERP systems to record job results and inspection data.
• Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations related to measurement and inspection.
• Experience with deburring and inspection in an aerospace or similarly regulated manufacturing environment is ideal, though not strictly required.
• Understanding of AS9100 or similar quality management system standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in aerospace manufacturing is preferred but not mandatory.
• Experience with grinding and the use of various hand tools in a machine shop environment.
• Familiarity with assembly processes and how deburring and inspection support downstream operations.
• Exposure to structured workplace organization and continuous improvement methodologies such as 6S.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precision components.
• Effective communication skills to train and guide new team members in deburring and inspection processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented production environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean machine shop environment that can be somewhat noisy due to active production equipment. Team members work around precision machinery, abrasive tools, and inspection equipment in a well-organized, safety-focused setting. The workplace emphasizes cleanliness, order, and 6S principles, supporting efficient workflows and consistent quality. Appropriate shop attire and adherence to safety guidelines are expected to ensure comfort and protection while working in the production area.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Valencia, CA.

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
