Community Associate

Community Associate Brooklyn Community Board No. 14 is a New York City agency. As the most local city agency, Community Boards serve as the liaison between the district and all city agencies to identify and meet local needs. We are empowered through the New York City Charter to make advisory decisions on land use, budgets, public policy and to monitor city services. The Board is composed of appointed volunteer members who represent the district, which covers the neighborhoods of Flatbush, Midwood and eastern Kensington. The staff are the primary point of contact with community members and city government. The Community Associate, under supervision and direction of the District Manager, assists in resolving community issues, supports the Board Chair and Members and is responsible for various administrative tasks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Community Support: - Respond to constituent concerns related to municipal services, including in person, phone and email communications - Attend monthly Board meetings and selected committee meetings, which are normally scheduled in the evening, as well as other occasional evening events and meetings - Assist in the organization of an annual youth resource fair, nonprofit roundtable and other events as the board directs Board Support: - Assist with meeting planning, monthly calendar and meeting minutes, Board's monthly e-newsletter and social media. - Ensure all meeting notices to the Board and public are distributed and posted on time - Prepare and update board member attendance reports and other reports assigned Office Support: - Perform office duties including opening and closing the office, answering phones and maintaining office equipment and supplies - Review invoices and input and/or approve purchase orders and entries in the city Financial Management System (FMS) for further approval and assist in maintaining financial records - Maintain key records and databases such as CRM, liquor license applications, street events, and land use applications. - Ensure day-to-day office operations are efficient and effective, order supplies and maintain inventory - Perform other miscellaneous tasks to support the mission and work of the Board and District Manager COMMUNITY ASSOCIATE - 56057 Minimum Qualifications Qualification Requirements 1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or 2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above. Preferred Skills - Cultural sensitivity and competency for a diverse population - Bilingual a plus - Must be a team player and enjoy interacting with people on a daily basis - Interest, familiarity, and experience with community boards and/or NYC government - Takes initiative, uses sound judgement, and demonstrates service orientation - Excellent oral and written communications skills - Computer proficiency including mastery in MS Office, Google Drive, FMS, social media - Superior organizational skills and keen attention to details, including the ability to effectively juggle multiple projects and meet strict deadlines Public Service Loan Forgiveness As a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
