Student Extern - Radiology

Employment Type Part time Shift Rotating Shift Description The Student Radiology Technologist is responsible for screening, positioning, and imaging patients. The position is scheduled to work only when another Radiology Technologist is on duty and works closely with the Radiology Team Leader and Radiologist to produce the most diagnostic images possible in accordance with department protocols. Skills, Knowledge, Education and Experience Completion of the first year of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program and currently enrolled in the second year. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Upon successful completion of the Radiologic Technology program, the Student Radiology Technologist has 6 months to pass the ARRT (R) certification. Incumbents may only remain active in this role for 18 months. Essential Functions Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships and approaches conflict constructively. Maintains confidentiality of all patient, physician, employee, and visitor information. Applies knowledge to perform job duties safely, reports hazards immediately, and complies with safety protocols. Pre‑exam: screens patients for safety issues, verifies correct patient, clinical history, order, and uses two patient identifiers for all exams. Follows radiologist specifications and performs exams with proper technique, views, and patient‑specific requirements. Completes documentation in accordance with department and hospital policy; submits studies to PACS. Participates in student education and meets program requirements. Demonstrates self‑directed learning, and conducts practice in line with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Provides quality patient care, considering age‑specific, developmental, and cultural needs. Identifies and assists in resolution of safety, sanitation, and maintenance problems. Practices effective communication with patients, visitors, coworkers, and team members. Supports teamwork, maintains a positive work environment, and ensures safety of X‑ray patients. Reviews patient schedule to identify potential problems or incorrect orders. Reports and orders department supplies as needed. Attends training related to daily job functions such as RadNet and PACS.
