About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience required License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must have Level 1 trauma experience. Must have previous travel experience. No first-time travelers. Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit. Description: This position involves caring for patients with neurological conditions such as stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, and head injuries. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5-6 for nights. RNs will need to administer and titrate medications, including Heparin based on PTT levels. A charge nurse is present on each shift and does not take an assignment unless staffing shortages occur. House supervisors are also available 24/7. Nurse aides or patient care technicians are present on the unit. Status of nurse aide ratios varies throughout the day shift, evening shift, and night shift. Registered nurses are not required to interpret telemetry strips as monitor techs are utilized throughout the unit. Shifts consist of 12-hour periods with an expectation to work every other weekend and every other holiday. RNs may need to float to other general units as needed, but will only perform skills they are competent in. Dress code includes covering tattoos while on duty, with no scrubs provided. Orientation will consist of 2 days with an educator followed by hands-on patient care with a preceptor.
