The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is dedicated to ending cancer through exceptional patient care, research, education, and prevention. The Orthopaedic Oncology department provides state-of-the-art care for adults and children with musculoskeletal bone tumors, including osteosarcoma, Ewing's sarcoma, giant cell tumors, chondroblastoma, chondrosarcoma, chordoma, and soft tissue sarcomas. The department focuses on maximizing patient function through advanced surgical and reconstructive techniques while also managing orthopaedic conditions in oncology patients such as fractures, arthritis, avascular necrosis, and osteoporosis. The Advanced Practice Provider plays a critical role in supporting inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic oncology care. The Advanced Practice Provider collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to manage complex patient populations, coordinate surgical care, and provide comprehensive treatment planning. The Advanced Practice Provider contributes directly to UT MD Anderson's mission by delivering high-quality patient-centered care across the continuum of treatment. The ideal candidate will have preferred experience in Orthopaedic Surgery or Oncology and experience caring for inpatient populations as a mid-level advanced practice provider. Candidates with one to two years of related experience are preferred; however, new graduates will be considered. Preferred education, licensure, and certification requirements are not provided. Salary Range: Minimum $117,500.00 - Midpoint $146,500.00 - Maximum $176,500.00

Patient Care of the Orthopaedic Oncology Patient • Complete history and physical examinations for patients with primary bone tumors, soft tissue tumors, and metastatic tumors
• Complete preoperative histories and physicals and submit consultation requests for medical preoperative evaluation
• Perform postoperative examinations and manage postoperative complications
• Review diagnostic and laboratory studies and formulate differential diagnoses and treatment plans
• Document patient encounters through prompt dictation of PMEs, histories and physicals, and preoperative and postoperative notes
• Dictate all telephone patient communications
• Present patient case histories and imaging studies at multidisciplinary conferences and document recommendations
• Submit billing within 24 to 48 hours of patient encounters
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, cancer treatment, and tumor surveillance
• Communicate with referring physicians and allied care providers to coordinate ongoing care
Surgical Coordination & Perioperative Management • Assist business centers with insurance authorization by providing clinical information and completing peer-to-peer discussions
• Schedule faculty surgical cases and coordinate complex multi-surgeon procedures
• Communicate with multiple surgical services to ensure surgical readiness
• Contact bone and tissue bank representatives for procurement of allografts
• Coordinate with medical device representatives regarding prostheses, instruments, and surgical equipment
• First and second assist during surgical procedures as needed
• Submit preoperative and postoperative orders
• Collaborate with operating room, internal medicine, and anesthesiology teams to coordinate complex surgical care
Inpatient Orthopaedic Oncology Management • Manage orthopaedic oncology surgery patients and oncology patients referred for orthopaedic evaluation and treatment
• Conduct daily inpatient rounds and monitor laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and clinical results
• Develop and implement appropriate plans of care, diagnostic workups, and therapeutic management strategies
• Monitor and manage postoperative complications
• Complete daily clinical examinations, wound care, and drain or tube management
• Coordinate orthotic and prosthetic needs with physical therapy staff
• Perform order entry, medication review, chart reconciliation, patient handoff updates, and patient education
• Participate in discharge planning with case management and nursing teams
• Complete discharge summaries and coordinate home health services when appropriate
• Manage orthopedic oncology and general musculoskeletal diagnoses for patients presenting to inpatient services
Procedural Responsibilities • Perform arthrocentesis procedures
• Administer intra-articular injections and bursal injections
• Perform closed reduction of fractures
• Apply casts and splints
• Perform wound debridement procedures outside of the operating room
On-Call & After-Hours Coverage • Cover inpatient services and the Emergency Center after hours while on call
• Provide medical management for postoperative patients
• Evaluate and manage urgent and emergent orthopaedic oncology concerns
• Manage inpatient consultations involving urgent or emergent orthopaedic conditions
• Coordinate care with the MERIT team, intensive care unit staff, and consulting services for emergent medical issues
• Perform acute assessments and implement diagnostic testing, consultations, and interventions as appropriate
• Provide operating room coverage after hours and on weekends Perform other duties as assigned REQUIRED: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.
