Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) - Cancer Prevention

The Department of Clinical Cancer Prevention is seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide high quality outpatient care in Cancer Prevention Center and Undiagnosed Breast Clinic. May deliver prevention and survivorship care, patient education, and support for clinical research initiatives. The role promotes and maintains patient health across the care continuum through clinical practice, education, administrative responsibilities, research engagement, and ongoing professional development. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of clinical experience as an Advanced Practice Provider, with a strong preference for backgrounds in Oncology and primary care, including proficiency in clinical breast exams, pap tests, and prostate exams. This individual will thrive as a collaborative team player, communicating effectively, embracing feedback, and continuously seeking opportunities for professional growth.
*The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.* Possible schedule, subject to change based on patient demand.
• Texas Medical Center: 4 days/week
• Administrative Day: 1 day/week MD Anderson offers employees:

KEY FUNCTIONS
Patient Care
• Provides quality patient care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development and other identified needs.
• Assesses health status by performing the medical history, physical examination and psychosocial assessment.
• Provides health care throughout the disease process: diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, palliative and terminal care.
• Must be able to visually read and write findings and to verbally communicate with patients and patient's family.
• Prevents, minimizes and manages symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to disease or treatment in collaboration with physician and other allied personnel.
Research
• Contributes to research efforts of department/section by identifying clinical problems amenable to research methods and collaborating in research projects.
• Applies pertinent research to clinical practice.
Service
• Schedules consultations, diagnostic tests or procedures, future appointments for patients in coordination with the attending physician. Must be able to walk from one area of the hospital to another to pick up and distribute information.
• Monitors laboratory, clinical radiographic and procedural data for daily rounds. Must visually evaluate data and prepare written information. EDUCATION
Required:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
• Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003.
• Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
Physician Assistant
• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013. EXPERIENCE
Preferred:
• At least 1 years of experience in Advanced Practice Provider role.
• Experience in Primary Care, Gynecology - clinical breast exams, pap tests, prostate exams.
• Prior Oncology experience. LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
Required:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse

• Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP). Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
• Basic Life Support (BLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) If working in the following departments: Pediatric - Patient Care (113100).
• MAY BE REQUIRED: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
Physician Assistant
All of the following:
• PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.
• Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
• MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
• Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) , ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
