Architect I–III The Architect I–III supports the development of architectural design and documentation throughout all project phases, from conceptual design through construction administration. Depending on experience, licensure, and demonstrated proficiency, the Architect assumes increasing levels of responsibility for design leadership, technical coordination, project delivery, consultant collaboration, and mentorship of junior staff. This role requires the ability to contribute to and progressively lead portions of project planning, design, documentation, coordination, and construction administration while maintaining alignment with project goals, client expectations, firm standards, and applicable codes and regulations. Architect II and III levels require professional licensure and progressively greater responsibility for technical design leadership, client coordination, and project execution. Essential Functions Communication and Collaboration Demonstrate working knowledge of conceptual, schematic, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration phases on assigned projects. Maintain proactive communication with project team members, consultants, and clients to sustain proper information flow. Participate in project meetings, both virtual and in-person, including consultant coordination and internal team collaboration. Lead selected meetings and presentations as experience and project responsibilities increase. Prepare meeting notes using firm standards and maintain accurate project documentation. Perform ongoing self-checking of work and communicate questions or concerns to project leadership. Review and coordinate junior staff work when requested. Participate in project scheduling and work planning efforts while adhering to established deadlines. Maintain digital file organization standards and assist in promoting best practices across project teams. Coordinate work with internal teams and sub-consultants. Support and participate in client presentations and business development initiatives. Demonstrate strong time management skills while working on multiple projects simultaneously. Continue development of expertise within one or more market sectors. Design, Visualization, and Space Planning Develop creative and practical design solutions for a variety of building types and project scales. Integrate architectural and interior design concepts into cohesive project solutions. Implement design solutions that align with construction methods and engineering coordination requirements. Apply principles of space planning, including accessibility clearances, ergonomics, functionality, and three-dimensional planning considerations. Assist with and progressively lead development of design concepts and presentation options for internal and client review. Demonstrate understanding of product functionality, durability, lead times, aesthetics, and cost considerations. Utilize computer-aided visualization and rendering software to support design development and presentations. Research and select appropriate construction materials, systems, and assemblies based on project goals, client preferences, cost, and performance requirements. Coordinate material and system selections with project teams and consultants. Support business development and marketing efforts through presentation materials, renderings, finish boards, and digital collateral. Delineation, Detailing, and Documentation Produce architectural documentation from conceptual design through construction documents. Develop drawings, schedules, and details for building systems, partitions, doors, walls, roofs, and assemblies. Apply architectural graphic standards, line weights, scales, and sheet organization principles. Adhere to firm standards for Revit, AutoCAD, and digital file organization. Perform field verification and site observations, including photographic and dimensional documentation of existing conditions. Prepare quantity take-offs, square footage calculations, device counts, and budget-related documentation. Demonstrate understanding of construction best practices and maintain familiarity with technical bulletins and industry standards. Apply knowledge of building, ADA, accessibility, zoning, life safety, and fire codes to project planning and documentation. Prepare code surveys and code compliance drawings and identify potential conflicts between design intent and code requirements. Assist project leadership with zoning review and approval processes. Delegate selected documentation and coordination tasks to junior staff as appropriate. Specifications, Resource Management, and Budgeting Maintain and organize material resources and digital product libraries. Develop and maintain knowledge of materials, systems, equipment costs, and manufacturer specifications. Contribute to preparation and coordination of project specifications. Assemble project budgeting information and cost analysis documentation. Participate in cost management and value engineering efforts. Provide financial and material recommendations to project teams and clients as experience and licensure permit. Construction Administration Participate in value engineering exercises and incorporation of approved design changes. Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and coordinate responses with consultants and project teams. Review shop drawings and submittals using firm software and filing standards. Coordinate with contractors, construction managers, procurement teams, and consultants during construction. Attend regular construction phase meetings and site visits. Coordinate with internal construction administration teams and support project closeout activities. Leadership and Technical Responsibilities (Primarily applicable to Architect II and III levels) Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior architectural staff. Serve as a subject matter expert on specialized building systems or technical project areas. Coordinate with Project Managers, Directors, consultants, and leadership teams on technical design solutions and project strategies. Independently apply advanced architectural concepts and problem-solving skills to complex projects. Lead portions of technical coordination, consultant integration, and client communication efforts. Carry out complex assignments requiring development or adaptation of architectural techniques and procedures. Education and Experience Architect I Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Design, or related field. 3+ years of architectural experience. 2+ years creating design solutions. Architect II Professional Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) or Master of Architecture degree required. Licensed Architect required. 6+ years of architectural experience. 4+ years creating design solutions. Architect III Professional Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) or Master of Architecture degree required. Licensed Architect required. 8+ years of architectural experience. 6+ years creating design solutions. Experience leading technical coordination and mentoring junior staff preferred. Required Skills and Software Proficiency Advanced computer and information management skills. Proficiency in current versions of: Revit AutoCAD Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, MS Project) 3D visualization and rendering capabilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of building systems, construction methods, codes, and project coordination practices. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a collaborative team environment. Additional Responsibilities Perform special projects and additional duties as assigned. Support continuous improvement of firm standards, workflows, and project delivery processes.
