Certified Nursing Assistant Or Patient Care Assistant Site: Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, Inc. Job Summary The Certified Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Assistant (PCA) functions as a member of the patient care team, under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN). The PCA is responsible for supporting the RN with clinical tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, applying simple dressings, using aseptic technique, and responding to medical emergency situations with Heartsaver CPR and AED skills. The PCA also attends to patient and family needs and actively contributes to the efficient operation of the unit while ensuring the Patient and Family Centered Care Model is practiced in an exemplary manner. Prior CNA/PCA experience preferred. Grade: 130. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Licenses and Credentials: Certified Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician (CNA/PCT) – Data Conversion – Various Issuers and Heartsaver CPR AED – American Heart Association (AHA). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Certified Nursing Assistant or current Nursing Student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing or an equivalent med/surgical clinical rotation; successful completion of an approved nursing assistant training program; effective spoken, read, and written English communication; ability to pass clinical competency, basic math, and reading testing; proficiency in performing basic math calculations and measurements for height, weight, intake/output, and calorie counts; interpretation and utilization of basic medical terminology and abbreviations; entry and retrieval of computerized information; physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads; ability to meet core job requirements within the practice setting; interpersonal and organizational skills to interact with nursing staff, patients, families, physicians, and others; and the capacity to manage stress related to patient care and changing hospital contexts. Additional Job Details Per Diem: 16 shifts in 6 months; at least 1–2 weekend shifts per month; 8‑hour minimum shifts; weekend and holiday rotation.
