Within the Shopify Legal Team, the Compliance Team ensures that Shopify meets its regulatory and contractual commitments while staying agile enough to support growth and innovation. Our team's mission is to design and enforce policies and procedures that keep Shopify compliant with applicable laws so our merchants, partners, and third parties can trust us.

As Shopify continues to expand its suite of financial products and services we're scaling our Compliance Program to match increased obligations. We're strengthening our program across lending compliance, AML / BSA, and other areas, all in service of making commerce better for everyone.

Our Compliance team is looking for a curious, adaptable, and detail-oriented Compliance Analyst to join the team, working within 2 hours of the Central Time Zone. This is a broad role - and intentionally so. You will own several aspects of our Compliance Program for Shopify's financial products, as well as contribute across a rotating set of high-priority compliance initiatives as the program evolves and grows.

Think of this as a wide-aperture compliance role: you won't be a specialist on day one, but you'll build depth in the areas that matter most to the business over time. We're looking for someone who thrives on variety, learns new regulatory frameworks quickly, and doesn't need every task defined before taking ownership of it.

Our ideal candidate has a foundation in financial services compliance - whether from fintech, payments, and/or consulting - and is ready to move into a role where they can make a high impact across multiple areas. You're passionate about leveraging your knowledge, instincts, strong research skills, and AI to tackle tasks efficiently and effectively.

What You'll Do

• Own day-to-day compliance responsibilities for some of Shopify's financial products, including conducting testing & monitoring, reporting, and responding to partner requests
• Work collaboratively to grow, develop, and streamline the compliance program according to Shopify's risk profile
• Help develop and maintain policies and other documentation across our Compliance Program, including AML, KYC and Sanctions
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency using AI and automation - and help build those solutions
• Highlight and address gaps within policies and procedures to ensure they remain effective and consistent

Qualifications

• Foundational experience in compliance, audit, risk, or a closely related function - with meaningful exposure to financial services, fintech, or payments
• A proven track record in compliance monitoring, testing, and/or audit activities - you know how to assess a control, document your findings, and communicate them clearly
• Strong ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously - you stay organized when priorities shift and raise risks early
• A fast, self-directed learner - you can pick up a new regulatory framework and get productive without being walked through every step
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong attention to detail
• A creative, data-driven approach to identifying and solving problems

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with AML, KYC, or sanctions compliance frameworks
• Exposure to lending compliance regulations (UDAAP, ECOA, fair lending)
• Hands-on experience using AI or automation tools to improve compliance workflows - not just familiarity with the concept
• Data analytics skills (SQL, Excel, Google Sheets)
