Honors Program Assistant Director

Position Summary The Honors Program Assistant Director supports the operations of the University Honors Program under the Director. The role includes teaching one Honors course each semester, providing professional academic advising, offering support materials for students, monitoring retention and graduation statistics, managing the program budget, coordinating events, and promoting the value of a 4‑year degree and the UNO general education curriculum. Academic Advising (50%) Provides professional academic advising for Honors students and develops advising support materials. Monitors and assists students engaged in internships or FUSE, developing study strategies and tutorial materials. Collects and manages student data, prepares reports, and monitors retention and graduation rates to foster student success. Administrative Support (20%) Manages correspondence, reimbursements, student employment matters, departmental phone and email accounts, and coordinates facilities. Plays a key role in event planning for Honors. Collaborates with the Director to monitor the program budget, process invoices, and reconcile financial records. Recruitment (5%) Provides prospective students personalized guidance through recruiting events and transcript evaluation, promoting the value of the 4‑year degree and the UNO general education curriculum. Other duties as assigned. Teaching (25%) Teaches one course in the University Honors Program curriculum each semester, according to the position holder’s area of expertise. Required Qualifications Experience working with Honors students. Experience mentoring or advising students. Some general office/clerical experience. Successful teaching experience in an Honors setting. Preferred Qualifications Proven teaching experience and expertise. Familiarity with advising needs. Familiarity with university electronic and general systems. Experience with an Honors program in a university setting. Highly effective interpersonal communication skills and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic calendars. Able to handle confidential information appropriately.
