About the Position

Job Title: Med/Surg Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Acute Med/Surg Duration: 22 weeks Shift: Full Time - Day/Night Shift Variable Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years of Med/Surg experience required License: State RN Licensure Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Experience in cardiac care and telemetry monitoring Description: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The RN assesses patient needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The RN provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The Med/Surg RN develops specialized skills in the area of cardiac care, including telemetry monitoring. The RN is accountable for patient and family education to assist them in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization. This includes lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The RN promotes comfort and provides emotional support in a healing environment. The RN applies nursing knowledge and skills in delivering care by assessing patient and family needs through active listening and social perceptiveness. The RN analyzes data and information obtained through direct observation and assessment, technology, or health team communication. The RN creates developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plans of care. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, the RN sets goals and monitors patient progress. The RN adjusts plans based on patient responses or changes in condition. The RN promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient. The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and uses results from quality improvement activities to initiate changes. The RN engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skills. The RN uses logic and reasoning to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and approaches to problems. The RN demonstrates skill in the application of nursing interventions, including medication administration. The RN motivates patients and families by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home. The RN assesses learning styles and structures education sessions to maximize understanding. The RN seeks teachable moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information. The RN asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self-care process. The RN provides tools and information to assist the patient and family after discharge.
