Production Supervisor

A food manufacturing facility in Pittsburgh, PA is hiring a Production Supervisor to lead a production crew and drive performance across safety, quality, and continuous improvement goals. This role oversees day to day production activity, coordinates closely with quality, safety, and materials teams, and plays a direct part in developing the skills of production staff. The Production Supervisor will directly supervise five employees and indirectly oversee one additional team member.

Full time, five days per week. Some flexibility in hours may be required based on production needs.

$75,000 to $95,000 per year, based on experience.

What You'll Do

The Production Supervisor ensures GFSI, ISO, cGMP, HACCP, food safety, food defense, and prerequisite programs are properly implemented, trained, and followed across the plant, and communicates any changes to production manuals and procedures needed to maintain SQF compliance. This person coordinates and supervises the batching and processing areas, confirming that in process and finished product meet quality specifications, and works alongside receiving and material handling staff to align with traffic and inventory management. They manage scrapped material inventory for recycling or resale, direct daily setup for production lines and filling areas, and adjust procedures as needed to meet production schedules, efficiency targets, and budget objectives. The role also includes daily verification of production accuracy and quality, identifying opportunities to streamline processes and reduce waste. On the safety side, the Production Supervisor participates in plant safety activities including audits and toolbox talks, supports the SSHE manager with required quarterly and annual training, and helps ensure the plant meets all company, local, state, and federal safety and environmental standards. This person also takes an active role in quality and continuous improvement initiatives, including root cause analysis and ISO audit participation, and works to involve hourly staff in those efforts. Training, coaching, and performance evaluation of assigned staff are ongoing parts of the role, aimed at maximizing engagement and team development.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands on experience)
• Three plus years of experience in a food manufacturing or similar production environment
• HACCP certification
• Working knowledge of SQF (Safe Quality Foods) fundamentals
• Knowledge of food processing sanitation and food safety requirements
• Experience directly supervising production staff
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a unionized production environment
• Familiarity with GFSI, ISO, and cGMP audit processes
• Experience with shipping, receiving, and inventory management processes
• Continuous improvement or root cause methodology experience (Lean, Six Sigma, or similar)
• Ability to work flexible hours as production needs require
