Director, Human Resources

Legacy, Inc. is a growing 48-state refrigerated carrier headquartered in Springfield, MO. We move freight across the country and take pride in doing it right with reliable equipment, strong operations, and a team that depends on us to keep things running smoothly. We’re looking for an experienced HR Director to own the entire human resources and payroll function. This is a fully hands‑on role responsible for all HR-related functions, from recruiting drivers to payroll, compliance, benefits, and employee relations, in a fast‑moving transportation environment. What You’ll Do Own the Full HR Function Manage all HR operations end‑to‑end, including recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, and personnel records Serve as the primary HR point of contact for employees and leadership Develop and maintain practical HR policies that work in a trucking environment Partner with leadership on workforce needs and company initiatives Payroll & Compliance Support multi‑state payroll processing, accuracy, and compliance Ensure compliance with federal/state labor laws, wage & hour rules, and DOT requirements Manage HRIS systems, reporting, and payroll‑related processes Lead driver recruiting, hiring, and onboarding Help ensure we attract and retain qualified drivers in a competitive market Support employee relations and day‑to‑day workforce issues Benefits & Administration Administer health insurance, 401(k), and other employee benefits Handle open enrollment, employee questions, and vendor coordination What We’re Looking For Required Proven HR experience with direct ownership of payroll and compliance Strong understanding of multi‑state payroll, wage & hour laws, and employment regulations Working knowledge of DOT requirements and driver workforce practices Ability to manage all HR functions independently in a small‑company environment Bachelor’s degree or equivalent HR experience Preferred Experience in trucking, transportation, or logistics Experience with driver payroll and DOT‑regulated workforces PHR or SHRM‑CP certification 401(k) Health insurance Health savings account Life insurance Paid time off Vision insurance Education: Bachelor's (Preferred) Experience: Human resources: 4 years (Required) Payroll management: 1 year (Required) Management: 1 year (Required) Benefits administration: 2 years (Required) DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations: 1 year (Preferred) License/Certification: Professional In Human Resources (Preferred) #J-18808-Ljbffr
