The Paraprofessional (Special Education)- Self-Contained helps students navigate everyday challenges by developing and aiding students’ daily living, motor and behavioral skills. Under the direction of a Special Education teacher, assists in the supervision and instruction of special education students in the classroom and community. The paraprofessional will be asked to assist the student on and off public transportation and support them at a job site or leisure activity in the community. To be successful in this role, the incumbent must demonstrate a high level of patience and the ability to maintain a calm and nurturing demeanor.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check.  Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

1. High school diploma or a recognized equivalent
2. Per Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), interested applicants must be Highly Qualified to be considered for the position and have completed one of the following:

• • completed at least two years at an accredited higher education institution (minimum 48 semester hours), or
  • obtained an associates (or higher) degree from an accredited higher education institution, or
  • satisfied a rigorous state or local assessment (Parapro Assessment/PRAXIS ETS) with a score of 460 or higher

The higher education institution  official transcripts, or college diploma, or a copy of the Paraprofessional Assessment must be provided with your application or upon a contingent offer of employment.Unofficial transcripts can be a placeholder until official transcripts are provided

1. Hold or obtain CPR & First Aid Certificate within 2 months of hire
2. Complete Safety Care Training
3. Attend Annual Health Services Training
4. Effective communication skills with both children and adults, including speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English; proficiency in grammar and punctuation
5. Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios
6. Experience using standard office equipment (e.g., phone, copy, fax machines etc.) and Microsoft Office
