Licensing Investigative Analyst

This posting will close at 11pm on 07/12/2026. Job Overview Performs moderately complex (journey-level) licensing and permitting work. The work involves receiving, investigating, data entry review of license and permit applications; ensuring compliance with applicable policies, administrative codes, statutes; communicating with external and internal customers; and approving license and permit applications. The employee may occasionally assist others in performing duties of greater complexity and works under general supervision with limited latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Travel Requirement 5% Job Responsibilities Receives, screens, analyzes, investigates, and reviews license and permit applications and related documents to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state and federal regulations, policies and guidelines for processing and issuance (50%). Monitors license and permit applications and requests for appropriate routing and processing needed to approve licenses and permits. Accountable for the timely and accurate issuance of licenses and permits in accordance with mandated performance measures. Reviews, maintains, and updates essential information in the agency’s database system and other appropriate computer applications and systems. Monitors daily status of application inventory and reports to supervisor. Issues licenses and permits and coordinates with Resource and Planning for reimbursements or transfers of fees when applicable. Reviews records associated with license and permit applications, violations, and other information required to determine qualification. Reviews applications and ensures compliance with administrative codes, state statutes, and agency policies and procedures. Provides administrative and technical assistance related to license and permit requirements to the public, agency staff, and government officials (30%). Answers licensing inquiries pertaining to rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Creates notices, correspondence, and reports related to license and permit activities and compliance. Conducts research to resolve customer service inquiries. Provides customer service to both internal and external customers. Provides administrative support associated with maintaining the office. Contributes to the development of administrative processes and procedures for the Licensing Department (10%). May be assigned to special teams or projects and assist in the development of technical and administrative procedures for the review of license and permit applications. Education, Training, Certifications and Other Work Activities (10%). Maintains all licensed related certifications. Performs related work as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent. Experience: One (1) or more years of full‑time work experience performing moderately complex application processing and/or application investigations. Applicable substitutions: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year per year basis. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of office practices; administrative and technical procedures; and applicable policies, administrative codes, regulations and statutes. Knowledge of and seeks intermediate training, development, and certification for self‑development. Exhibits sound knowledge, initiative, and judgment in accord with TABC’s Guiding Principles. Skilled in advanced licensing‑related computer skills/software applications. Skilled in effective written, oral, and persuasive communication techniques. Ability to expand learning experience in management of change, mediation, and conflict mitigation. Ability to own personal development and learn performance management concepts. Ability to collaborate and exchange creative ideas. Exhibits personal integrity/credibility. Exhibits effective team‑related concepts. Registration, Certification or Licensure Possess a valid Texas driver’s license, if applicable. Additional certifications may be required to be registered, certified, or licensed in a specialty area. Office Information Reports to: Manager IV (Regional Manager). Location: 5806 Mesa Drive, Austin, Texas, 78731. Requires ability to move around the office, access filing cabinets, operate office equipment, and lift up to 20 pounds. Must be able to communicate and exchange information via phone, computer, in person and electronic media. Must perform repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Must be able to work with overlapping deadlines. Telework option after initial probation period; requires a secure dedicated workspace with internet, reliable schedule, and availability for meetings via Microsoft Teams or other platforms during regular business hours. Military Information Veterans, Reservists or Guardsmen with an MOS or additional duties pertaining to the minimum experience requirements may meet the minimum qualifications for this position and are highly encouraged to apply.
