Director of Development

Overview The Director of Development leads the Arizona Chapter’s development programs, securing significant financial resources to support conservation goals in Arizona, the Western United States, and Canada. The role involves strategy, staff management, and high‑level donor engagement. Responsibilities & Scope Direct all aspects of development functions, including chapter, individual, planned, foundation, and corporate giving programs. Develop and execute a strategic, integrated approach to fund‑raising, achieving annual goals of $8‑11 million. Oversee a staff of 8‑11 employees, managing hiring, coaching, training, performance, and workload capacity. Design, implement, and monitor development plans, budgets, and project management strategies. Lead major donor portfolio management, including fundraising goals, negotiations, and relationship building. Drive a $60+ million campaign slated for launch in 2027, coordinating with the State Director and volunteer leadership. Collaborate cross‑functionally with the Chapter Leadership Team, TNC business units, and global staff to advance conservation priorities. Serve as liaison to the Arizona Board of Trustees’ Development and Finance Committees and attend relevant meetings. Ensure compliance with TNC policies, procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements. Travel up to 20% of the time within Arizona and occasionally nationally; work extended hours and weekends as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of senior‑level fundraising experience. Proven experience cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gifts and building long‑term donor relationships. Experience in planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities. Strong managerial skills, having supervised a multidisciplinary team. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, web browsers, and CRP database applications. Valid driver’s license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program. Desired Qualifications 10+ years of high‑level fundraising experience. Track record of closing 6‑7 figure gifts. Experience with nonprofit board engagement and governance. Expert knowledge of major gifts, capital campaigns, and evolving fundraising trends. Advanced communication, presentation, and relationship‑building skills. Awareness of charitable gift‑planning concepts. Experience in a large, complex nonprofit organization. Multilingual and multicultural experience valued. Background in science is a plus. Salary Information The starting pay range for this position is $157,000 – $180,000, applicable to U.S. candidates. Salary will vary based on location, qualifications, and experience.
