Spanish Interpreter - CDSA “Follow Your Calling, Find Your Career” Pay Range: $20.00-$24.71/hour This is a non- exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job. Position Summary About the Division of Child and Family Well-Being: At NC DHHS the Division of Child and Family Well-Being (DCFW) focuses on supporting whole child and family health and well-being for North Carolinians. DCFW works to ensure that North Carolina’s children grow up safe, healthy and thriving in nurturing and resilient families and communities. DCFW has complementary programs from the Divisions of Public Health, Mental Health, and Social Services to maximize services and outcomes for children and their families, including nutrition programs (SNAP, WIC and Child and Adult Care Food Program), health and prevention services for children and youth, children’s behavioral health services, and early intervention programs. The North Carolina Early Intervention Section (NCEI) is a part of the N.C. Division of Child and Family Well-being. It is the lead agency for the N.C. Infant-Toddler Program (ITP). The Infant-Toddler Program provides supports and services for families and their children, birth to three who have special needs. Research shows that this time period is critical. It offers a window of opportunity to make a positive difference in how a child develops and learns. Children’s Developmental Services Agencies (CDSAs) across North Carolina work with local service providers to help families help their children succeed. The CDSA Interpreter provides interpreter and translation services for individuals seeking services or assistance from the CDSA Program of Mecklenburg County Public Health. This position, under minimal supervision, assists the public in completing required paperwork and forms and coordinates related services as requested or needed. Essential Functions Interprets and translates initial requests, both on the phone and in person, for assistance, and provides communication for non-translating staff and the public. Schedules appointments, answers questions, and coordinates additional services or requests. Translates written materials and forms such as brochures, educational information, and directions and assists with forms completion when requested. Accompanies staff on field/virtual visits which may include staff representing county departments in planning, administration, child protective services, medical providers, or workforce initiatives. Gathers materials for clients which will assist them in meeting their objectives or in obtaining assistance. Maintains information, data, or other materials on clients as necessary. Coordinates and performs a variety of administrative duties to support the department and staff. Some positions may be required to support enrollment and eligibility activities performed in the NC FAST system. May be required to staff shelters in the event of a disaster. Mecklenburg County Health Department employees: Respond in cases of urgent and/or emergent events that require public health interventions. Employees may be trained for and assigned duties unrelated to their regular work; work outside normal work locations, business hours and workdays may be required. Emergency events include, but are not limited to, pandemics, severe weather situations (e.g. snow or ice storms, tornados, hurricanes), natural disasters (e.g. earthquakes), fire, or power outages, and acts of terrorism. Minimum Qualifications Experience: Minimum of two years of related experience and fluency in English and interpreting skills in Spanish. Education: Associate’s degree in a related field. Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes Licenses and Certifications: Must be able to pass County’s certification exam; if assignment is in the Health department, must be able to successfully complete testing for medical interpreting in both Spanish and English; requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License; requires County Driving Privileges; annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
