Medical Billing Analyst

Department/Unit: Physicians Billing Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Salary Range: $46,947.00 - $65,726.00 The Medical Billing Analyst is an intermediate billing position within the Hospital or Physicians Billing Offices for the Albany Med Health System (AMHS). This role focuses on timely follow‑up for accounts that have already been billed but need re‑billing, accounts where the payer has not responded within regulatory guidelines, or denials requiring immediate action and/or rebuttal. The denials assigned in this role are more intricate than others and may require a professional narrative with supporting documentation to overturn. The incumbent must learn quickly, work independently, and use payer websites to locate payer policies that affect AMHS payouts. The incumbent will meet production standards after onboarding and training and will communicate regularly with peers, trainers, and leaders. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Primary Job Responsibilities Resolve intricate billing edits, follow up on no‑response work queues, communicate with payers via phone, email, or website, locate denials or remittances through payer websites, respond to denials (rebilling or appeal with documentation), collaborate with internal and external departments, identify and present payer trends, mitigate trends with leaders, serve as a resource to Medical Billing Associates, document actions, navigate payer websites, review payer policies, locate adjudication details, use Epic, On Base and other platforms, work independently under deadlines, prioritize workload, articulate resolution avenues, meet daily/weekly productivity and QA standards, perform other duties as assigned. Revenue Cycle Management Identify accounts for payer agendas when disputes are unresolved, focus on accounts receivable > 60 days, communicate payer trends affecting AR, maintain professional communication with outside departments, collaborate with Patient Access and Coding, identify departmental trends for management, build understanding of expected reimbursements and reports. Qualifications High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required Associate's Degree - preferred Prior office experience - preferred Medical Billing or claims knowledge - preferred Ability to work independently and within a team Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to communicate with internal peers and leadership Demonstrates ability to learn and understand instruction Effective prioritization and execution in a high‑volume environment Microsoft Office and website knowledge CCS‑Certified Coding Specialist or Certified Inpatient/Outpatient Coder upon hire - preferred Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
