ENTRY-LEVEL CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR

• Location | Colorado Springs, Colorado, with frequent statewide travel
• Compensation | $58,000–$75,000 annually, depending on experience
• Travel | Out-of-town assignments may require four to five days of travel per week

Learn more at Position Summary The Entry-Level Construction Inspector serves as GMS’s on-site representative during construction of municipal water, wastewater, drainage, and roadway infrastructure. Working closely with contractors, municipal clients, and GMS engineers, this position observes and documents construction from initial mobilization through final completion. What You Will Do

• Observe and document construction for general conformance with approved plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Prepare clear, accurate daily reports, photographs, quantity records, testing documentation, and other project records.
• Attend and participate in project progress meetings with contractors, clients, and GMS staff.
• Track construction progress and installed quantities and support review of contractor payment applications.
• Identify observed discrepancies and field concerns and promptly coordinate them with the project engineer.
• Assist the project team in resolving field issues while maintaining professional working relationships.
• Assist with substantial-completion inspections, punch lists, final inspections, and project closeout.
• Maintain redlined field drawings documenting observed construction changes for preparation of record drawings.
• Communicate professionally with contractors, municipal staff, property owners, citizens, and GMS team members.
• Travel to project sites throughout Colorado and work out of town as project assignments require.

The contractor remains responsible for construction means and methods, sequencing, and jobsite safety. The inspector reports observed issues to the project engineer and does not independently authorize changes to the work. What Will Help You Succeed

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
• Basic mathematical, measurement, and quantity-calculation skills.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and electronic file management.
• Ability to learn to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining regular communication with the project team.

Preferred Qualifications

• An associate degree, construction-related coursework, technical training, or equivalent field experience.
• Experience in infrastructure construction, construction inspection, utility installation, surveying, materials testing, or quantity takeoffs.
• Experience with concrete, excavation, demolition, water or wastewater system operation, roadway construction, or sewer and water infrastructure.
• Prior experience using tablets, cameras, or electronic construction-documentation tools.

Travel and Physical Requirements

• Ability and willingness to travel frequently and remain out of town for four to five days per week, depending on project location and schedule.
• Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, dust, and other conditions typical of active construction sites.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, traverse uneven terrain, climb, bend, and safely work around construction equipment and excavations.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with project-specific safety requirements.

Compensation and Benefits The anticipated salary range is $58,000–$75,000 annually. The actual offer will depend on the selected candidate’s experience, qualifications, and demonstrated skills.
