Overview: Principal Duties:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and the Foreman, the Maintenance Mechanic - Electrical Technician is responsible for the following:

1. Respond to work orders in a timely manner to identify and mitigate faults, failures, and hazards.
2. Troubleshoot system failures and execute necessary repairs.
3. Read, interpret, and accurately follow technical instructions and operation manuals.
4. Perform cleaning, repair, and installation of equipment and parts.
5. Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
6. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
7. Recommend solutions for equipment repair or replacement.
8. Adhere to all safety and performance standards.

Other duties may be assigned. Typical workday will be Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Working hours may be adjusted as needed to accomplish repairs that are required to be outside of typical workday hours, to be determined by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Reports to work on a regular and reliable basis with excellent attendance.

Requires general knowledge of MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems, including but not limited to high and low voltage, distribution panels, switchgear, transformers, fire alarms, clock systems, and various other electrical components.

Must be capable of and comfortable with working from heights.

Capable of working both independently and as a team.

Ability to read sketches, blueprints, specification manuals, and other written instructions.

Possess good problem-solving skills.

Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, reports, regulations, etc.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, staff and students.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written forms.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic mathematical functions required in the building maintenance trade, including, but not limited to, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, and fractions.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve problems effectively.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Ability and knowledge to operate equipment, tools and vehicles necessary to accomplish assigned duties.

Valid Iowa State Driver's license with a record that is satisfactory to the District and the District's insurance carrier.

Must be willing to work under adverse weather conditions.

Basic computer knowledge including the ability to use email and web-based software.

Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.

Ability to problem solve independently and with others.

Ability to work independently as a self-starter who is motivated to work hard.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while working with equipment, computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.

Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently. Sufficient physical strength and ability to perform manual labor and to work from ladders and scaffolding. The employee will be required to work in hot or cold conditions inside and outside of buildings. Must pass the required workgroup physical assessment to be eligible.

Required Education Level: High School diploma or GED

Salary and Benefits Hourly Rate: $25.83 entry rate, $30.74 with Journeyman License or equivalent Salary and benefits in accordance with the work agreement with the Cedar Rapids Custodial & Maintenance Employee Association, including but not limited to a healthcare package, paid vacation, IPERS retirement program, etc.
