INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER DIRECT HIRE OPPORTUNITY


A growing organization is seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer to optimize the layout and flow of manufacturing operations, focusing on the physical arrangement of processes and equipment used in the production of air-cooled heat exchangers. This role leads continuous improvement initiatives, capacity planning, and process flow design while collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and integrate new technologies. The primary focus will be on Manufacturing BOM (MBOM) development, physical plant layout/line design, custom tooling engineering, and the strategic procurement of critical capital machinery with long lead times. This position includes occasional travel for vendor selection, auditing, and equipment evaluations.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze and optimize the physical layout of the production floor to improve workflow, reduce material handling time, and enhance overall efficiency in the manufacturing of air-cooled heat exchangers.
• Develop and implement strategies to streamline process flows, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve cycle times across all production stages.
• Lead continuous process improvement initiatives by applying lean principles and industry best practices, optimizing production flow, equipment usage, and personnel efficiency.
• Assess current production capacities and work with management to propose equipment upgrades or layout changes that accommodate future growth and demand fluctuations.
• Collaborate with design and R&D teams to ensure new product designs are manufacturable with optimized production layouts and minimal disruption to existing operations.
• Identify and analyze production inefficiencies, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Monitor and improve equipment layout, and lead the planning and integration of new equipment to improve flow and minimize downtime.
• Create and maintain documentation related to process flows, layouts, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other operational guidelines.
• Implement cost-saving initiatives related to production layout, equipment use, and material handling while maintaining high product quality.
• Partner with production, quality assurance, and R&D teams to implement manufacturing solutions and resolve issues related to product flow or equipment functionality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in industrial engineering or manufacturing optimization, preferably in a production environment.
• Strong knowledge of process layout optimization, workflow management, and production systems design.
• Familiarity with CAD/CAM/Solid Works/Catia software and other engineering tools for layout and process flow and tooling design.
• Proven experience managing CAPEX projects, conducting equipment ROI analyses, and managing heavy machinery vendors.
• Strong understanding of PLM/ERP systems and the structural workflow differences between EBOMs and MBOMs.
• Practical knowledge of Lean principles (5S, Value Stream Mapping, Line Balancing).
• Proven track record of de-risking long-lead-time machinery schedules during a new product introduction (NPI) phase.
• Experience establishing FAT/SAT protocols for automated or semi-automated production equipment.
• Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and resolve inefficiencies.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, capable of working across multiple departments to achieve shared goals.
