Overview

We are seeking an Environmental Scientist with 0 - 5 years of professional experience to be part of our Environmental Services department in our Fort Lauderdale, FL office .

WGI is seeking an entry level environmental scientist to serve as an "In-House" consultant to assist senior staff with technical support and local, state and federal regulatory permitting of transportation projects in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties, as a function of duties for a districtwide contract with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) - District 6. The Environmental Scientist will be responsible for providing technical support to our transportation projects. This position is for someone who enjoys a mixture of office and field work and enjoys a diversity of project types. The Environmental Scientist will work under the direction of several senior-level environmental professionals with diverse areas of expertise including wetland and upland permitting, and protected species management. Responsibilities

Assist with transportation projects by coordinating with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, planners, and surveyors
• Collect field data such as soil and groundwater sampling, tree surveys, wetland assessments, protected species surveys, and gopher tortoise relocation
• Conducting benthic resource surveys (seagrasses and corals)
• Analyze data, prepare graphics, write technical reports, and prepare environmental permit applications
• other responsibilites as assigned by the manager

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field
• Ability to identify Florida trees and wetland plants
• Knowledge of threatened and endangered species that occur in Florida is a plus
• Must be able to collect data in hot and difficult field conditions including remote and swampy places
• Excellent technical writing skills and communication skills
• Experience with GIS or AutoCAD is a plus
• Knowledge of Florida and federal permitting rules is a plus
• PADI or NAUI certifications preferred, but not required
• Ability to work independently
