ARRT Registered Radiation Therapist | Full-Time

General Summary

The Radiation Therapist is an essential member of the healthcare team, trained to operate radiation therapy machinery and deliver treatments accurately to targeted body areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Administer radiation treatments safely and accurately as prescribed.
• Position and image patients consistently according to treatment plans.
• Provide emergent care during on-call shifts.
• Document treatments, schedule appointments, and manage billing through electronic health records.
• Conduct daily operational and safety checks on linear accelerators and simulation equipment.
• Adhere to radiation safety principles to protect patients, self, and others.
• Simulate patients under physician guidance and fabricate immobilization devices as needed.
• Ensure all treatment plan data is verified against physician prescriptions before starting therapy.
• Train and supervise students and junior radiotherapy technologists.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold ethical standards regarding patient rights.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Educate and support patients and families by answering questions and reinforcing physician guidance on treatment and post-care.

Education

Graduation from an accredited School of Radiation Therapy Technology is required.

Experience

At least one year of experience in radiation oncology is preferred. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential. Computer proficiency is advantageous.

Certification and Licenses

• Registered Radiation Therapist (ARRT) certification or eligibility in Radiation Therapy.
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role demands considerable mental focus and the ability to work under stressful conditions related to patient care. Physical activities include lifting up to 60 lbs., frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Standard radiation safety protocols apply, with minimal exposure to radioactive materials. Occasional exposure to biohazards, infectious materials, and challenging patient interactions may occur. The position includes a flexible schedule and on-call duties as assigned.
