Responsibilities Assemble gas turbine engines and various aircraft and gas turbine engine subassemblies and parts/components under technical surveillance of a journey‑level mechanic. Check disassembled parts for defects such as warping, under or overweight, or for continuity of wiring harness. Examine, evaluate, recondition, and assemble subassemblies of limited variety, such as assembling compressors or building up “hot” sections. Disassemble aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories, removing tubing, fuel controls, pumps, etc., from engines and break down major assemblies in proper sequence. Determine if disassembled parts are reusable, recognizing scratches, burns, deformation, etc. Perform visual, dimensional, and tactile checks of individual parts for foreign object damage, stress fractures, excessive wear, etc. Determine the condition of all component parts in accordance with technical specification and recondition or replace parts as necessary. May be called on to perform other tasks as assigned. May be required to review and/or certify the work performed by another for which they are certified to perform. May be required to train/mentor lower grade employees. Qualifications Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or competencies in the job elements and screen‑out elements listed below. Perform maintenance and repair of gas turbine engines, systems, components, and assemblies supported by the organization. Disassemble aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories, removing tubing, fuel controls, pumps, etc., from engines and break down major assemblies in proper sequence. Determine if disassembled parts are reusable, recognizing scratches, burns, deformation, etc. Use measuring instruments such as electronic scales, continuity checkers, go‑no‑go gauges, squares, rules, and vernier calipers, and automated test equipment to test disassembled parts for defects such as warping, incorrect weight, or for continuity of wiring harnesses, in order to route defective parts to repair or salvage. Follow supervisor, leader, or higher graded employee’s oral instruction on assembly/disassembly sequences and problem areas, and read and interpret blueprints and specification sheets when checking for parts damage or deterioration. NOTE: U.S. citizenship required and the ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance. Salary and Benefits This skilled trade position has a WG‑8 wage range of $24.72 ‑ $28.80 per hour.
