Department Biology/College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Jobcode Postdoctoral Research Scholar Working Title Postdoctoral Research Scholar - Biology The Tootle Research Group in the Department of Biology at the University of Iowa is seeking to hire a postdoctoral researcher in cellular and developmental biology to a part‑time 55% position to advance our understanding of how Fascin regulates nucleoskeletal dynamics during invasive, collective cell migration using Drosophila border cell migration as a model. The candidate will be responsible for designing, generating, and interpreting experimental data, presenting their data at scientific meetings, drafting manuscripts, and assisting in the daily operations of the laboratory. The researcher will also be highly encouraged to seek extramural and/or intramural funding to support their innovative research endeavors. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain Drosophila stocks Conduct qualitative and advanced quantitative fluorescence microscopy analyses Supervise and train junior lab members in cellular and developmental techniques Stay updated on relevant research through literature searches and field developments Prepare research materials for publications and presentations (internal and external) and present findings at scientific meetings Maintain detailed experimental records in a laboratory notebook Contribute to ongoing experiments by suggesting new approaches or amendments to protocols Collaborate with a team of researchers at the University of Iowa, across the United States, and internationally Perform other assigned lab duties EDUCATION REQUIREMENT Ph.D. in cell/developmental biology, or related discipline Less than two years of postdoctoral experience DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Excellent organizational and time‑management skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Demonstrated proficiency with Drosophila genetics Demonstrated proficiency in confocal microscopy techniques and quantitative image analyses Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: cell migration, nucleoskeletal dynamics, and mechanotransduction.
