Water Systems Planning & Hydraulic Modeling Engineer

In this role, you will work closely with our technical experts, local leaders, and client service managers to advance our technical services and support business development on a wide variety of projects for primarily public sector clients. Typical projects could involve:• Creating master plans for municipal water utilities• Updating or creating and executing a variety of hydraulic models and evaluating model results for planning and design projects• Preparing feasibility studies, alternative analyses, and conceptual design development for water infrastructure improvement projects• Assisting with water supply studies and alternatives analysisYou will have the opportunity to quickly take on more advanced roles and responsibilities as you develop your internal network and expand your abilities.ResponsibilitiesUtilize advanced knowledge on how surface water infrastructure, stormwater systems, water distribution systems, and/or wastewater collection systems operate and the facilities in each system.Lead drinking water modeling efforts using commercially available modeling software such as InfoWater Pro, WaterGEMS, AquaTwin Water for water distribution systems.Perform flow monitoring or advanced field testing to collect data for model calibration.Lead calibration of models using measured or observed data.Perform complex analysis of drinking water using models to identify deficiencies for existing conditions and future scenarios.Prepare and analyze technical reports detailing model development, calibration, analysis, and recommended improvements.Provide advanced technical support on design projects by modeling and validating facility sizing and system performance.Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to communicate findings.Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.Preferred RequirementsDevelop water and planning skills and experiencePerform hydraulic modeling and analysis of water distribution systemsPrepare comprehensive technical reports and presentationsAnalyze and manipulate data using spreadsheets, GIS, and other software toolsTravel occasionally to project sites for data collection and client meetingsPrepare figures and maps for reports and presentationsWrite letters and otherwise communicate with clients and the publicPrepare budget level project cost estimatesCoordinate, manage, and execute complex assignments to achieve client goals within scope, schedule, and budget constraintsParticipate in improving company resources and tools to improve quality and efficiencyPerform other duties and responsibilities as assignedMentorshipProvide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.Skills and CompetenciesAdvanced understanding of hydrologic and/or hydraulic principles and methods used to evaluate systems and facilities.Advanced proficiency in modeling software, data analysis, and/or GIS tools (ArcGIS Pro).Ability to lead field testing programs and/or perform complex system analyses.Strong technical writing and presentation skills for internal and external audiences.Capable of mentoring staff and contributing to project planning.ExperienceTypically, a minimum of 10 years of related work experience in hydraulic modeling or related field.Preferred ExperienceBachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering; Master’s degree preferredCalifornia PE license or ability to obtain PE within 2 yearsWorking knowledge of water and sewer infrastructure hydraulics and operationAbility to work as a member of a team3 to 5 years of directly-related experience in water hydraulic modeling and planning, with progressively increasing responsibilityStrong technical writing and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare effective written documentsProficiency with advanced modeling, data management, and related software packages a plus (e.g., InfoWater, WaterGEMS, Aquanuity , Excel,)Organizational and analytical skills with high attention to detailEducationA bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or related field or equivalent experience is required.Has achieved or is working towards achieving professional license.Learn more about our work:Climate Change and Resilience - Brown and CaldwellData Center Water - Brown and CaldwellEmerging Contaminants and PFAS - Brown and CaldwellDigital Solutions - Brown and CaldwellNews - Brown and CaldwellProjects - Brown and CaldwellIndustrial Water - Brown and CaldwellSalary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
