Job Description and Duties

The North Central Region is looking a motivated and charismatic candidate for a Fish Hatchery Manager 1 position at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery, a key production facility supporting populations of Central Valley fall-run Chinook Salmon and American River steelhead trout and major contributor to California's commercial and recreational fisheries. Situated along the beautiful American River in Gold River, CA, the Nimbus Fish Hatchery is close to popular Sacramento County Park and California State Park walking trails and day use areas. This position, in close coordination with the North Central Region Hatchery Management Team and the Fish Hatchery Manager 2, is the first line supervisor to technical staff, including Fish Habitat Assistant and Fish & Wildlife Technicians classifications, and directs day to day tasks in the maintenance and operation of the hatchery facility. Under the direction of the Fish Hatchery Manager II, and in close coordination with the North Central Region Hatchery Management Team and partnering agencies, the incumbent coordinates the implementation of artificial propagation programs and facility maintenance tasks at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery. The incumbent is the first line supervisor to technical staff, including Fish Habitat Assistant and Fish and Wildlife Technician classifications. Additionally, the incumbent assumes the responsibilities of the Fish Hatchery Manager II in their absence.

Working Conditions

The work site will be the Nimbus Fish Hatchery located at 2001 Nimbus Road, Gold River, CA 95670. This position requires wearing an approved uniform identifying as CDFW staff. Work schedule may include weekends, holidays and unusual hours as assigned, required, or necessary. Must be willing to work in remote locations and extreme weather conditions, as required. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License required for operating department vehicles. Must be able to use a computer, keyboard, and Microsoft office software several hours a day. Assigned work will involve sitting, standing, walking and manual labor. Occasional travel may be required. No State Housing is available. 

Special Requirements

This position requires possession of a valid Driver's License. The selected candidate will be required to provide a photocopy (front and back) of the license: Name as stated on the license, issuing state, DL #, Class, expiration. 

The selected candidate may be required to provide transcripts (may be unofficial).
