Job Description

This role focuses on MIG welding and gas-shielded flux core welding on structural and carbon steel components ranging from 16 gauge to 0.5 inches in thickness. You read and interpret blueprints and assembly instructions, lay out metal and build fixtures, perform precise measurements, and complete high-quality welds that meet defined specifications and dimensions. You also carry out quality checks and finishing work, including grinding and smoothing welds, in a clean, climate-controlled production environment.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints and assembly instructions to understand project requirements and weld specifications.

• Perform MIG welding and gas-shielded flux core welding as the primary welding processes on structural steel and carbon steel from 16 gauge to 0.5 inches.

• Lay out metal components accurately and build fixtures to support welding and assembly operations.

• Use a tape measure and other measuring tools to verify dimensions, ensuring the ability to read down to 1/16th of an inch on a ruler.

• Conduct quality checks on completed welds and assemblies to confirm that product specifications and dimensional tolerances are met.

• Use hand grinders and other hand tools to smooth welds and perform finishing work on welded structures.

• Work efficiently in a production environment while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and craftsmanship.

• Collaborate with team members to complete structural steel welding projects on schedule.

• Follow established fabrication procedures and welding best practices to ensure consistent and reliable results.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 1 year of MIG welding experience on structural steel.

• Proficiency in MIG welding and gas-shielded flux core welding.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and assembly instructions.

• Ability to accurately read measurements to 1/16th of an inch on a ruler and use a tape measure confidently.

• Experience working with carbon steel materials ranging from 16 gauge to 0.5 inches in thickness.

• Skill in using hand tools, including hand grinders, for weld finishing and fabrication tasks.

• Understanding of basic fabrication and fitting practices in a production welding environment.

• Capability to perform welding on structural steel components while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Overhead crane experience is a plus.

• Exposure to TIG welding is beneficial.

• Experience in a production welding environment is advantageous.

• Familiarity with flux core welding processes.

• General knowledge of structural fitting and fabrication techniques.

Work Environment

The standard schedule follows a 4/10 structure, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with additional hours during periods of increased demand. Work is performed on-site with no travel required, using welding equipment, hand tools such as grinders, and measuring tools in a structured production environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Henrico, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
