Overview This is a "Supervisor in Training" position intended as an interim role. The employee will support production activities across multiple departments (furnace, casting/refining, breaker, etc.). The employee will be expected to complete Production Supervisor training (on demand) and classroom training; some overnight travel may be required. The employee will rotate to assist all departments and supervisors with processes, operations, timekeeping, disciplinary processes, and related matters. The position reports to the Operations Manager, with additional direction and training provided by the Plant Manager and Area Managers. Direct work for employees. Lead by example, adhering to and enforcing all safety standards. Counsel and complete necessary documentation for training or corrective actions and violations of plant rules. Schedule and conduct toolbox meetings with hourly employees daily. Complete shift paperwork daily, including safety, quality, and productivity as well as work area logs. Ensure that hourly employees follow standardized work and standard operating procedures. Account for all department equipment, including mobile equipment. Ensure that daily checks are completed and documented. Qualifications The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities necessary to perform this job. Required Current experience in manufacturing. Able to read, write, and speak English. Mathematical and analytical skills. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Outstanding organization, administrative, and time‑management skills. Ability to work on multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to apply concepts learned from training (classroom and on the job). Preferred High school diploma. Experience working in a union manufacturing plant. Previous leadership experience. Six Sigma or Lean training and/or certification. Knowledge and experience of problem‑solving and quality improvement methodologies. UKG or other time‑keeping systems. Heavy equipment experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft applications. Critical thinking and good troubleshooting technique. High energy, self‑motivation, and ability to succeed without direct supervision. Physical Demands and Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The individual is occasionally required to climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The individual must be able to occasionally lift a minimum of 50 lbs.; regularly lift a minimum of 25 lbs. daily; and lift 51 to 150 lbs. with assistance of equipment on a daily to weekly basis. Regular use of safety glasses and steel‑toed shoes is required. Regular use of a respirator is required. Vision requirements: close vision. The work environment is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. Individuals are occasionally exposed to precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. Noise level is minimal to loud. The individual regularly works in a dirty, lead‑contaminated area and must wear a uniform and safety shoes in that area to prevent the tracking and/or possible lead contamination of other clean areas or outside the regulated areas.
